3day weekend in America. Only Drew and Langdon can make anyone go to school on a 3day weekend. You guys rule.

This "Speed Challenge" sounds kind of fun. Maybe it's time to buy myself a blue shirt ;)

Come on now, that's part of the challenge. We never said these things were going to be easy!

My oldest son started kindergarten last week, and I got some great shots of him heading off to school. Now I'd like to reproduce one, but it's a Saturday and Sunday... Maybe I'll get him in his school uniform, slap on the backback and get the shot anyway. I'll just tell him to act like he is going to school!! Heck, I'll go ahead and give him some homework, too!!

I agree to much fun to pass up. So look at me and my new blue shirt!!!! I wonder how many people usually enter one of these fast challenges? So far I like the odds ; )

Speed challenges are supposed to be one of the inducements to get you to upgrade to a paid membership.

I think is time to buy myself a blue shirt, but how do you get a purple one and those cool glasses.

Purple shirts and sunglasses indicate site council members, who basically try to help folks with questions about the site/rules and vote on DQ requests. The admins invite people to join periodically, but there hasn't been much turnover lately.

You can always join on a one-month membership (and get to do this speed challenge), and try out the greater level of involvement before you commit for a year.

I have to say the timing on this is really BAD. I live a block from my little boy's school and the photos I could have gotten had this been done on a SCHOOL DAY would have been fantastic. But of course only here at DPC would a Back to School challenge take place on the very first 3 day weekend of the school year. OH well guess this is one of those challenges where a macro of a rose will work well and I can call it a Flower for the Teacher. =o)~

You can tell someone doesn't have kids in school when they plan this challenge on a 3 day weekend! All I can say is BAD TIMING!

This is the first speed challenge we've had in a long time, maybe that's because people complain so much. Nobody's is forced to enter, it's just for fun, and it's a challenge. Thanks Drew and Langdon and whoever else for giving us something fun to do for the long weekend!

Now that's a jab! Why do you have to insult those of us who do not have kids? Does this mean we're unable grasp the concept of what the first day of school means? Maybe we're supposed to be creative, and not just take pictures of the primary school kids getting on the bus with their new backpacks?

I'm the last person to get uppity on the forums, but I found your post unnecessarily insulting and rude in tone.

This timing merely suggests we may actually be creative and not enter something either cliche or redundant.

Personally I think it is cool that this speed challenge was done on a week end. It makes you work extra hard to get the shot. It sure got my butt out of bed this AM, and after looking at my entry I am sure glad it did. That is what I love about this site, it tests you on so many levels.

Who says it has to be a kid with a back pack getting on the bus? Last school year I photographed the school crossing gaurd at work, without having a single child in the photo. I also photographed the school custodian while he was cleaning up the hall for the memory book, but being a weekend how can either one of these be possible???

Also has anyone thought about the fact that the challenge ends the same time as the regular member challenge? Kind of makes it rough if you have kids and put off doing the repetition challenge to the weekend cause of work and other things now you have this thrown at you and it has to be submitted Sunday night also...

...Well I'm off to photograph the rose I brought in earlier...A Rose for the Teacher it is!

Could someone please show me in the rules the one that says "Must enter every challenge or you will be dismembered by the DPC society."

I miss it everytime. I swear I shouldn't check the box that says I read them!
---------
Translation: you shot the crossing guard and the custodian last year. How about a) not submitting, b) thinking outside the box, or c) reread what everyone's said. They are challenges. Not meant to be easy.

Shoot more. Talk less. Makes getting 2 challenges done easier.

(going back to editing now)

I think it's totally inconsiderate of the admins to have this challenge before I've even had the chance to pop out some babies! I mean, c'mon guys...it'd be nice to think of someone besides yourselves for awhile...I've just been really busy and haven't gotten around to it yet. Some of us have to work a lot and don't have time to lay around making babies. Please postpone this challenge for five years until my as of yet unmade babies are in school. KTHX.
08/31/2003 12:18:58 AM · #23
yeah!!!! really!!! mk and I have not made babies yet.... uh....wait.

that didn't work right....

uh...

I have no kids!

she has no kids!

And we don't even have kids together!

(boy oh boy the hole gets bigger!)

Please hold this challenge thought until mk and i have had a chance to make babies!

(separately of course!)

:)

I started this thread and it wasn´t meant to be a big complain. It was just a thought that flew through my nind when I got up yesterday and saw the speed challenge. I was thinking of those people round here that now must take macros of pens, rubbers, books and other things related to school in some way. I´m rather lucky because I´m a teacher living 200 yards from school. So I can take my own or the neighbour´s kids to school and shoot. I really hope people don´t ask for a DQ as soon as they see a picture of a kid at school or other shots from inside a school because it can be made.
