I agree, you try to encourage somebody like Joey who is young and gifted, and you get blasted for it by some dude that is jealous. That is just stupid. I think most of the photos on this site are very well done, and I enjoy looking at all of them and trying to figure out what they were trying to say with the camera when they took the image. Whenever you are poitive though some dude(ette) comes along and tells you what a loser you are for liking something as crappy as that. It is just a case of some person trying to feel better about the fact they do not have the respect that another photographer on this site has.
I learned a bunch from that Joey L dvd, and I hope he continues to make videos, and maybe someday even teach photography and video to others on a larger scale. He is gifted.
I like the 2nd version better than the first. I think the tone worked well on it.

It seems to me that the only opinions of yours that are memorable are the negative ones...
...a recent example: your sustained arguments that people should learn to use the camera correctly in the first place like you do instead of shooting in RAW. You drive home your superior knowledge of camera usage every chance that you get and rebel against that common opinion that shooting in RAW is the better choice.

I bought the DVD and I haven't even opened the envelope yet. I don't care as much for the DVD as I do for supporting a teen's endeavor to pursue his dream career and his unique and helpful methods of fund raising.

Why do you care about the size of his ego? This is not a rhetorical question and I really would like an answer.

That's none of your damn business, but it is another example of your negativity.
It's MY opinion that you might find that a more positive attitude is a happier path in life and to find that I suggest that you seriously explore your motivation for pounding home your superior points of view. |

Please don't fade away. This site NEEDS positive, kind and fun people like you. It NEEDS people like you to outweigh the surprisingly low number of negative people who just can't help themselves. It's usually only a handful of these people who infect thread after thread with their negativity. We really need to nurture positivity and thus reduce their influence - if we just let good communities go where will it eventually lead?

And I agree also.
To Rex: I, and probably most other DPC'ers, become familiar with the members and learn their online personalities and character. I pointed out what is most memorable to me about deapee in my previous post.
For bear_music I know that good information and advice will follow. Scalvert, a trusted and respected member of site council is present. etc. and etc...
I associate the user ID "Rex" with good and positive feelings. I don't remember anything specific, but generally, I know that I am dealing with someone with a good heart and good intentions.
I read your post about turning away from this site with disappointment. I want to reiterate what Kavey said about outweighing the negativity on this site with people like you. I don't want to see you and others like you giving up on this what is mostly a good site. |

While most people are entitled to their own opinions, I think it's best if we just keep our mouths shut when needed. I sometimes bite my lip because I don't want our new members and registered users to think that our community has gone way side.
One of the positive things around this site, which keeps me going, is the attitude, the positive attitude of our folks. We are here to learn which I have and I hope to return that to those who have just started or even our evetran members.
Joey's style, while not unique, has it's own place in this communtiy of ours. No one is unique anymore. We have all morphed into different styles which makes it all the more worthwhile. Experimentation is key to learning. If some of our members and users want to learn how Joey does his style, then so be it ;) If we all just stick to our "accustomed" ways, then growth will never happen.
Bring it on guys! Ya'll doing great ;)

I've decide not to pick apart pieces of your post and respond to each one individually. Instead, I'll just say that I don't feel that I 'pound' my points of view on anyone in any way, nor do I necessarilly think they are 'superior'. The fact that you seem to think I do only means that I am a good writer and that you seem to read and remember what I write more than what some others write.
I post a lot...the fact that you can remember the discussions that I get into is great. Maybe you should take this time to mark me as a favorite photographer, that way you can keep tabs on me more closely.
That being said...and I've said this in the past, I have an opinion to share. Sometimes I decide to share it. Other times I decide not to share it. I think you get your whole 'pounding ideas' thing from the fact that once I make a statement, or take a stand on an issue, it just so happens that someone is always ready to call me out and tell me just how wrong I am...so of course, I elaborate.

I never said I didn't like the style. I do like the style, but thanks for putting words in my mouth. My only gripe is that the photos that have been posted so far in this thread don't really mimic 'Joey's style' much less any other style that I've seen.
What would be wrong with a little originality anyway?

Furthermore, telling me that 'Pittsburg' (learn to spell) sucks doesn't hurt my feelings any...nor does telling me to go hang out at another website. I share my views in the most non confrontational manner that I am capable of...if you can't respect my views, no matter how much they differ from your own views, please keep any narrow-minded, personal attacks on me, the level of my 'coolness' or my city out of it and leave that to a private message.

If everyone had just taken deapee's opinion as what it was -- an opinion, after he stated rather explicitly that that is what it was, and stayed on topic, rather than trying to blame all the site's negativity on him, it wouldn't really be necessary, now would it?
Now, please, back on topic. |

It's amazing the affect that one person's comment can have. This entire thread has just spiraled down hill and lost its original purpose due to what just ONE person said. Come on guys, let's use our energy for something more productive. |

I don't see a reason why this thread should be locked. If the SC is gonna go around locking every thread where people have disagreements then they might as well get rid of the forums period.
I don't normally get into discussions like this, but for once, I have to agree with deapee. Joey did not invent this style of processing and to claim that he did is just preposterous. There are countless threads on the "joey style" and after a while, it really does get on people's nerves. I have nothing against him or anyone who decides to idolize him, I just think that it has been taken a bit too far. I know there are some people here, myself included, that have at times asked for your donations for charity, things like the walk for cancer, ms, etc but I think that soliciting for personal gain is completely inappropriate for this site and I'm surprised the admins let it happen. I don't think it's very ethical to capitalize on a technique that does not belong to him. I had been wanting to get that off my chest for a very long time, so there. Before you go ahead and accuse me of being jealous, I am not, not in the slightest.

Sorry, gotta disagree with you. He made one comment. It was the comments afterwards that caused the spiral. Had his opinion been taken as opinion, and left at that, it would have continued discussing and posting pictures.
Please continue. |

Was this thread titled post your disagreement about Joey's DVD. WHY HELL NO!
Someone started this thread to see peoples photos after watching the DVD not to hear people bitch about Joey making money. I think if you want to bitch then that is fine. But do it in another thread.

oh good grief. nevermind.
say what you want. the thread is about people who have gotten joey's video and used it. I'm simply trying to get it back to that. If you wish to continue your tirade, please do so, as you suggested, in another thread. I am trying to get this one back on topic so that it can continue in a civil manner. |

I have tried numerous times to get this thread back on topic. But it looks to me that Chiqui was the one that got it back off topic. Anyone glad she got it off her chest and asking her to return it back to topic?
No. I don't see it.
Just lock the damn thread. It appears to me that people are just jealous when someone that does good puts together a video fopr people and DPC lets it happen and doesn't ask for a handout yet it look like he should have. Maybe no one would have bitched about it not be a Joey style.
