I'm trying to start uploading to some of the microstock sites, and i was wondering just what people use to do their keywording, and categories? I know there's a few different microstock sites, and i was wondering if there is a way to attach the keyword information to the file itself, instead of having to retype out all they keywords for every site.
Is there a program i can use to do soemthing like this? Is this where IPTC comes in? if so, what's an effective way to do this?
Thanks |

I use XNView (free) to edit the IPTC data with keywords, title, caption, etc. Most of the stock sites pull info in seamlessly. Just Google XNView. |

It's a waste of time to do it individually for each site. There are many programs where you can modify the IPTC data. I title/describe/keyword/etc in Photoshop and Bridge. Series of photos with similar subjects can be bulk keyworded easily. I imagine that Elements could do this as well if you don't have Photoshop.

I usually do a search for similar images and borrow thier keywords. If I combine the keywords for more photos the better my keyword list will be. :-)

ah cool, good idea :)
Does anyone else have trouble making the iptc data turn up on their picture? eg i tried uploading to istockphoto, but once the picture is uploaded, it still asks me to type in the name, caption, keywords etc... it happened with dreamstime as well. But when i check my IPCT editor, it's there (in 2 seperate programs) |

If you use the customized uploading application someone developed for them, it will parse the IPTC keywords for you (though you'll have to reformat them a bit), and you can enter all their category info before you upload to their site. |

Try uploading just one image at a time -- I think I had problems when I tried to list more than one. |

I don't care for Istock's Image Manager but you can always have multiple windows open and use their standard web upload system. If you use their standard web upload it will still ask you for all the information but it should be pre-populated with the information from the IPTC fields in your file. What programs are you using and how? |

I've been using IrfanView to batch add IPTC comments for uploading to my agency. Handy little program. |

Ditto on iMatch ... //www.photools.com/im0002.php
They've got a 30 day free trial so you can download it and try it out to see if it works for you. The price isn't bad either, compared to some of the others.

does anyone use imatch to do their IPTC editing, and if so, do you have any trouble uploading to stock sites automatically recognising iptc data?
Thanks |
