I expect this one to get as much criticism as the picture of desolation. I get soo frustrated. I get the idea I want to portray in my head. And then when i try to photograph it, it comes out differently. But I will keep doing the challenges, because they help me sharpen my skill.

I predict between a 6.2 and a 6.6 which will in final probably end up around a 5.9 :)

I reckon i'll come in on about 5.8 or so.

Hoepfully not as low as my Indulgence entry :(

lol. I may be new here but not new to photography. I think I have a good grasp of what you guys like as my current scores show. I may not win a ribbon in my first week though. :)

I'm new to all this--still haven't even entered a challenge cause i'm lame and i've been sick.

Thanks

did anyone ever answer your question?

yes, you can enter a member's challenge and one open challenge at the same time.

I predict first will be wine glasses. Second place will be yet another water droplet shot. Somehow, both will be won by Rikki. Third will go to kiwiness, just because he hasn't gotten anything in what, three weeks? Four? Everyone else will have wildly conflicting comments about what is and is not bokeh. This leads to rioting, and Site Council will call in the National Guard. ;)

My prediction... I will be in first 10 :D

bokeh

'bo' as in, bow and arrow.
'keh' as in, okay

As for myself, I'm predicting mid 5's. I had planned to do a great star trail photo for the 30sec++ competition with my mom's 350D, but weather has been uncooperative, not to mention my order for canon's RC1 remote control won't be in before midnight ;)

4.7... gotta stay average! (er, below average, but average for me.)

I predict frustration and angst!

I predict breaking my mouse on the update button!

I predict my entry will end up in this thread Deserve to Ribbon?

We can't even agree on this. I think the guy who coined the term in English and added the 'h' says the "ke" is like "kenneth"...

Well then the guy didn't listen very closely to any Japanese person pronouncing the word he derived it from. I wrote up that pronounciation guide based on how the Japanese would say their own words.

You know, I'm going to take it back. I went to the original article by Mike Johnston and it didn't have a pronouciation there after all. (must have been some other article). I'd defer to the Japanese pronounciation then which is as you said.

Bah!
Just went to upload my entry and noticed in my EXIF data that the year on my time/date stamp was somehow erroneously reading 2007 for the year. I hate stupid mistakes that stop you in your tracks. :(

Then again, you never know - pronounciations frequently get butchered when words are adopted into other languages. "Anglacization" so to speak. No American says "samurai" correctly by Japanese standards, but then again, the Japanese have no right to complain... you should see what they've done with english words. =P

The Japanese would pronounce the word as I have said it, but I'm not sure they would understand it as a photographic effect. My understanding of the original Japanese word has less to do with "out of focus" and more to do with "faded". As in, when people go senile, for instance, they are said to "bokeru". "Fade".

I think I'm locked into the 4.7 range. LOL! (in reference to another thread, yes, I really did laugh out loud as I typed that).
