First, I know these aren't great shots, but they're posted for the subject matter, not the quality. :)
At the lagoon today, I was watching two adolescent gulls grabbing what I thought were pieces of seaweed. It was very windy and the current was strong so they were doing a lot of drifting, manouvering, and hanging on the wind.
When I got home and loaded the photos I discovered that what they were doing was dropping a feather into the water then retrieving it, over and over! I imagine it's a training exercise, probably for their habit of dropping shellfish to break them then grabbing them up, but it certainly looked like a game to me! Has anyone else ever noticed them do this?

Good nature captures. Nice! You may want to place them in a triptych.

I've never seen this but it is amazing what you can learn from a series of shots. My daughter was telling me about a doco she watched on starfish. It was a series of time laps shots ( because starfish move real slow) and it showed how social starfish are. They spent a lot of time moving around the group catching up with friends!

I've noticed, especially with the purple ones, that they're usually in close groups, often overlapping, but I didn't know that was anything but accident. That's cool! :) |
