Two facts you need to know to understand this story:
1) Today is my birthday. I'm not digging for Happy Birthdays, but this fact is integral to the story.
2) I was supposed to be on a plane to NYC 15 minutes ago.
So last night my main man and I were sitting around the house getting ready for our big trip when it comes out that he doesn't know exactly which day my birthday is. He knew it was sometime this weekend, but didn't know the day.
Well, I sure as hell wasn't going to tell him so I started lording it over him (heretofore referred to as DIPS**T moment #1) and teasing him.
A bit later he got up and went to the computer and I knew he was trying to subtley figure out the date -- or find the phone number for someone who knew. Realizing that I had JUST A FEW HOURS BEFORE gotten a new driver's license (ours expire in your birthday month, and since it's so close to the end of the month I almost forgot and couldn't have flown home from NYC without a new one), I knew that my birthday would be on that. So I sneakily grabbed my wallet and ran and hid it (heretofore referred to as DIPS**T moment #2).
The night went on and he figured it out (with a HUGE hint about a half-birthday only occurring every 4 years...duh). I forgot all about the wallet...
...until 4:45 this morning. We were ready to leave and I couldn't find it ANYWHERE. I looked in all the usual places, figuring I had just set it down somewhere. It took me half an hour just to remember that I HAD PURPOSELY HIDDEN IT!!!
And guess what? I still have ABSOLUTELY no clue where it is!!! The fact that I can't remember where I hid something just 12 hours ago is probably an indication of just how much I needed this vacation.
I've looked everywhere. I've retraced my steps. I've been about ready to cry. I've missed my plane.
Now I'm just ROFLMAO.
Luckily, my main $ card was not in the wallet, so the only thing I have to do this morning ('cause I've given up looking for it -- it's just causing me stress on my big day) is go back to the license branch and wheedle another copy of the license out of 'em and then go find a (hopefully) temporary wallet to use this weekend. I got on a flight that's about 5 hours behind the one I was supposed to be on.
SIGH. It's been a couple of hours now, so I can laugh about it. Trust me -- two hours ago it wasn't nearly so funny.
Anyway, that's my story. I'm going to have a leisurely morning now before the BMV opens. I just had to share because commisserating (sp?) is cathartic.
And to top everything off -- it's my super-birthday (I've turned 29 on the 29th). So far it's not been so super. ;)
OK, I'm off to get my second driver's license in 13 hours and then take some shots of the fancy-pants city. Oh, and see some tennis, though I doubt my seats will be as good as this. Woo hoo!!
I hope this saga makes you all feel much better about yourselves.
Rob

and yes, i realize that having all this happen during the "Oops" challenge is quite ironic. trust me...if i could distill this whole thread into one photo, it'd win a bluey for sure.

Happy birthday and thanks for the laugh : )
I'm always putting things 'somewhere safe' and then not finding them for weeks afterwards.

Happy birthday, Rob!
You have me in stitches..but I feel your pain when your SO forgets your birthday!
You realize that as soon as you return from your trip you will sit down to relax and your hand will fall on your wallet. ;)

Ditto!!
Hope the trip goes well when it eventually starts!!
Pete keeps saying we ought to get me a box with the words SAFE PLACE stencilled on it - sometimes I don't find my stuff for so long the currency is no longer in USE!
