I don't follow the Lost thread 'cause I know that we're a few at least episodes behind the US (or at least used to be) and so I don't want any spoilers. Here we've seen up to the episode where the tail survivors join the main survivors on the beach.

Just a question though, that suddenly struck me. How the hell do they know they're on an island until they see the video in the bunker. No-one had circumnavigated it, no-one knew where it was, why must it be an island? If it wasn't, some things would be a lot easier to explain - for example, maybe the polar bears escaped from a zoo a hundred miles away or something... or maybe I just think about it too much lol

Is there some detail I've forgotten, or is it just an assumption we all take for granted?

ETA: bet I look stupid when someone reminds me of a really importatn part of the first episode or something lol

Maybe I'm wrong here, but didn't they get the map of the Island from the French woman?

ahhhh yeah I think you're right. Can't remember if it was a complete map or just showed some parts in relation to others, but that might explain it.

That's not til the 9th episode though...I've believed it was an island since the very start.. but maybe that was MY assumption, not theirs
