How in the WORLD did this photo (1st place in the last challenge) get anything below a 5? I'm just curious as to why anyone would give this a 1? Who did this? There is nothing "1" about this photo people...I vote that a current eye prescription is required on the next challenge.

these don't bother me, but i'm gonna guess:
the blur. lots of people don't like to see any kind of motion, which i think is a shame.
the light. there's a bit of a glare on the base of the fan. maybe a more diffuse light would have avoided that? i dunno.
the shadow. this was in my comment, but i didn't let it affect my score. for this shot, i think would have been more effective to see more of the shadow, rather than shoving it in the corner so it's like it's not there.
just a few guesses. the thing to remember is that this site is all about diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks. i've given up trying to guess how things will do and complaining about it.

Another person who can't understand how or why anyone would dare have a different opinion to themselves. This site is getting full of narrow minded idiots.

That's a little harsh...
whether you like a photo or not, surely everyone should be able to recognise quality? This has quality written all over it.
I presume you're playing devil's advocate there, otherwise it would be hypocritical to come out with such an opinionated and generalised statement.
Edit: the preceding was directed at Martin

i'd love to see someone call me an idiot face to face, but i digress...
maybe my below 5 was a little harsh...but my main point was the "1" score....Martin...if that picture could possibly rate a 1 on anyones scale...what the hell would a 10 be???
My POINT, oh wise martin, is that some people aren't taking this seriously...or maybe..as the beasite boys say...this is sabotage.

I've not been on DPChallenge as long as some, and I certainly can't claim to be a good photographer..
From my experience, it's best just sit back, relax, and accept DPC for what it is: a group of people sharing photos and learning from it.

Because of the 'perfectness' of this photo, someone requested it for DQ because they thought it could have been edited with a neatimage or something. Maybe those 1's came from people who though this photo was not done within the rules for this challenge. We do however encourage people to always vote as if the image was legal and let us handle the DQing, but I'm sure that doesn't always happen.
People make assumptions, and sometimes, those assumptions are wrong. ~Heather~ |

Did it ever occur to anyone that maybe, just maybe, the folks that voted it low just didn't like the photo?
Maybe it didn't hold their interest as a photograph...maybe as a child one of these fans decapitated one of their Barbie dolls or GI Joes??

I requested a DQ for this photo because it was so good I couldn't believe it was all in-camera. I still gave it a 10 though, in accordance with the correct procedure. |

rick - my point wasn't the low score..it was the "1"...
i can understand the 1 vote for being a dq...
but i still can't figure out how if that is a 1...what in the world would the other persons scale be?
my vote is a scoring system ( or better yet a point based system-requiring comment ) like that at www.trekearth.com
you are absolutely right about their right...i was just ranting...i know that i did have fun as a kid putting things in the fan! lol =`)

I wasn't trying to point fingers. I didn't even look to see WHO requested it, just making a general statement that those 1's could have come from people who didn't think it was legal. Sorry if you thought it was directed to you, totally not my intent. (and now that I look, you weren't the only one requested it for DQ)
