I've got my sigma 30mm f1.4 this week and I'm very excited about it.

I plan to use it at weddings and when doing gig photos. So the low light hability is a very desired funcion.

But after returning a sigma 24-70mm f2.8 because of the softness at f2.8 and because I love my 105mm macro from sigma I've got some mixed feelings about this brand. Hope to get more confidence from this lens, becvause I'm seroiusly thinking in getting the 120-300mm f2.8 istead of the 70-200 vr from nikon because of extra reach for sports and nature.

But how do you feel about the 30mm f1.4 if you've got or tryed one?

Got one, sharpest lens I have (I also have a 50 f/1.4, 70-200 VR and 35-70 2.8), it is my fav (because I also like the 30mm angle).

Mine is very sharp @ f/1.4.

I have one and use it often on my D200. No problems whatsoever (the AF-ON button even works with the lens), and it's very sharp even wide open at 1.4, and becomes razor sharp by 2.8. I'd highly recommend it.

Zal, I have this lens on my D200 and what I find is that what you see on the screen isn't often a good indication of the finished shot. What I mean is, it looks soft on the camera LCD, but when I transfer the shots, they are pin sharp. I guess I use mine at 1.4 a lot for depth of field and bokeh. I have the Nikon 50mm and I find that a tad sharper, but you have to take a couple of steps back.

I am a HUGE Sigma fan as you can see by my lens collection. I have the 70-200 2.8 and the 10-20 superwide...I tend to use these more than my Nikon 18-200 VR lens...I also have the 'Bigma' 50-500 which is super sharp and an amazing lens.

I used my 30mm tonight in a live music performance and it was awesome! Tack sharp.

Thanks--that's good to know. I agree on difference between the final photo vs. what's on the LCD.

Since you also have the Sigma 70-200, what are your experiences with how it functions on the D200--any problems or anomolies?

I have a new "DG" version of the lens, and in addition to the known problem of the AF-ON button not working (although it works fine with my 30mm, go figure), I've found that focusing is VERY inconsistant at 70mm in AF-S mode (single focus). However, the focus is spot-on in AF-C mode once it settles on the focus point. At 200mm, focusing is perfect in both AF-S and AF-C. Just wondering if you've experienced anything similar?

zal, I've got a Sigma 120-300f/2.8. It is a real tank of a lens at about 6.5lbs., but a really awesome performer, IMO.

Zal, I have great results with the Sigma lenses I have and my D200. I find the 70-200 the sharpest and quickest when focusing. It hardly ever hunts except in very low light, but most lenses would.

The 70-200 is such a balanced lens and feels great to hold.

I took this lens out to do some shooting yesterday at a beach and it was so quick you hardly knew it was focusing, and I shot in all kinds of light. I must have received a really good one.

It's a lens I put on with great confidence.
