We beg, borrow, steal, or sit it out :(
In my case, sit it out, since I don't know anyone to beg, borrow or steal from, dammit!

Someone told me to stop complaining and go borrow a camera that could do 30sec exposure.

actually we can just submit a 15sec (or as long as your camera allows) and pray that nobody requests for a validation, LMAO !!!

I'll make two 15 sec exposures and blend them together ... or, I'll buy a Canon EOS 400D (did they release it yet?)

I have an ancient slr... could I take 30 seconds with it, then photograph the results with my digital? Yeah, yeah, just kidding, I gotta TRY to get in the challenge somehow, and I don't KNOW anyone with a "real" digital cam!

i have the same problem!!
but as of now, i'm just an amateur with not enough knowledge to even attempt buying a 'good, "real" ' camera!
So i'll keep it as it is. LOL

Maybe it's the perfect excuse to upgrade.

I hesitate, because I wanted the EOS 350D (enough "real" camera for me), but the minute after I buy it, Canon releases a press statement about the successor to the 350D ... OK, I am off to the hardware forums to see if anyone is in the know ...

NO! I am not complaining, I cannot be in all challenges anyway ... will skip this one, as I skipped "indulgence" for legal reasons (!) I had a top ten idea otherwise, but I'll have to wait for Indulgence II then ... haha!

I can't believe a lot of these cameras can't do 30 seconds. Even my Minolta Z1 can do 30 seconds. You all talk about borrowing a real camera. I'm sure everyone has at least one friend with a digital camera and just because it's not a DSLR doesn't mean it can't do it. You should check!

I agree with the really cool part.
I thought it was because of the fact that its more 'real' than most digital cameras, including the shape/size and all.
Besides, settings are "manageable" and it helps you [or well me as a beginner] practice before dealing with the good stuff :)

Besides, when people in school see me with it they always ask questions like "Did you borrow that from the Photo department?" or "Are you in journalism?"
Gotta love it!
LOL

Tee hee. I agree that the S2 is a pretty cool camera...

I personally bought a 30D just because one person on DPC thought I took one good picture...

The upside of that is that now I get to thumb my nose at all you other S2 owners because I can enter this challenge and you can't!!! Nyahhhh...

Heh just kidding...

I've already opened the offer to Crayon, so I don't see why anyone else couldn't come along...

I'm going shooting in 10 minutes with the express purpose of securing at least one shot worthy of entering (yeah right!).

Anyone who cares to come along can meet me at the MRT station for Ming De road in North Taipei... I have an extra helmet on my scooter! ;)

Ok, I did my part!

set your camera to 15 seconds and hit the shutter button twice, real fast, like double-clicking a mouse...

(((j/k)))

So...for rounding, wouldn't 29.444445 seconds count? How many decimal places can you take it?

I'd vote hard-line on this and say 30 minimum, no rounding. Period.

FWIW, I understand SC only plans to look at exif details on the top 5 and those images which require validation - in otherwords, same as any normal challenge.

I don't know if the loan manager at the bank likes being called darling ;) Cuz that's the only way I'll be able to upgrade in the foreseeable future, dammit. Well, I guess there's always lottery tickets....

But on the whole, for the skill level I'm at now, I love the S2 IS. There's more I do like about it than I don't like :)

But I'm addicted to DPC and wanna enter everything I can!! :D

I took a 30 sec shot with my 10d and my wife's 350xt and looked at both's image details in zoombrowser and photoshop and both said shutter of 30seconds. is this what i go by or is there somewhere else i should look at to make sure it doesn't say 29.xx? I worry because the OP has the same brand of camera as my wife and I.

No, it wouldn't count. You don't round a number to the nearest tenth in order to round it to the nearest integer. Numbers are pretty straightforward. I'm glad you're not SC.

Thanks Beetle! :) And if it were just the drive I might take you up on it, but when the cost of the ferry adds another $100, and the extra time means an overnight stay, it just ain't gonna happen. Being poor sucks! :(

I just wanted to publicy answer the ticket submitted by the OP. Consensus is that if the exposure time as reported by EXIF is 29.5 seconds or greater (rounds to 30 seconds) it will be fine.
BTW, *many* cameras will report exposure times that are slightly different than the setting. Use of a remote trigger can affect this as well, since the remote trigger may have a slightly different clock rate and trigger delays are probably not figured in.
Good luck to all in the challenge!
