I don't think Canon's ZoomBrowser opens and then resaves .jpg files when it moves them from camera to computer. It just copies them, same as if you used copy & paste or drag & drop, so no worries about altered EXIF, or degradation.

Thanks everyone for your replies...that has put me at ease.

I was also warned that even using something like Windows pictureviewer to look at them after saving could alter them, so that it was best to save two sets, one into an untouched file, and another for browsing and working with.

I had an experience far more disturbing than just messing up EXIF data a few months back.

I rarely shoot video on my camera but had a once in a lifetime (well almost) experience to shoot Sony's robots (can't remember their name now) when they were visiting SA last year. I took a number of stills and a couple of bits of video which weren't anything special except that they showed what those little guys can do. When I got home, I downloaded everything using the program contained in PS Elements III. Imagine my horror when I started browsing through my images and discovered that the videos had been downloaded as 640x480 stills. By then they had been deleted from my camera. Not the end of the world, but I really wanted them.

Needless to say, that's one bit of software I've never used again. Now if I could just work out how to stop it opening up every time I connect a camera to my computer...

Zoombrowser seems to be fine. I sent a file that I have opened and looked at in Zoombrowser to SC and they said that it was an acceptable original. (Just did that today.) So as far as that program goes, all should be fine.

I bought a card reader and then a printer with card reader built in, so I don't use the card reader anymore. They really are a lot better than transfering directly from the camera.

I'll be happy to send it to you if you want. It is a Lexar USB 2.0 Multi-Card Reader.

PM where to send it if your interested.

I have that one, it works quite well, very fast if you have USB2-hispeed ports. I don't like that the lid always likes to close, but that's never been more than an annoyance.

It's on it's way -- should be there early next week. Sorry, no tracking number with basic USPS.
