The brown ribbon brown themed extavaganza (only the winners of the brown get to enter and take photos based on brown).

The never placed challenge (those whom have never had a 1-5th place finish get to re-enter thier best photo and battle for a place in DP history).

That limitation on subject matter would shut me (and a lot of people) out, for the same reasons people were limited in "Take Two" -- my "best" picture is not likely to be reproducible.

stop being peeved and just go borrow or rent a camera that can do a 30 sec exposure. It's that simple.

Or shoot for the Bokeh challenge.

boomtap, dpc very rarely does challenges with restrictions on who can enter like the two you have suggested. And when they do it's very controversial. They are not well received by many members, and not just the ones that are excluded; and the ribbons from them are considered of lesser value by some. The general idea here is sort of to keep the whole community involved and competing all together, as opposed to breaking it down into various segments. The only real separation that has persisted is the member challenges and the open challenges. And even there a person can break down the separation by paying to become a member.

I don't understand why some people get upset about 'exclusive' challenges.
If they can't enter they can enter the alternative challenge, it's not the end of the world.
And some of them seem to have potential to be very interesting.

I've searched through the forums, although, not very throughly, but have never come across a clear cut answer to what the brown ribbon actually is.

So, what is it??

Hmmmmmmm, OK. Let's say there are 261 people in the challenge, and you get 261st place...you have now won the "Brown" ribbon. Last place...brown representing....ummmmmmm....poop!!

It could be called the Brown Ribbon Craptacular Challenge?

And if you get the brown ribbon in that well...maybe you should get the sewer award.

How about a challenge where anyone can pick any brown ribbon winning shot and try to reproduce it in a way that makes it more appealing? The requirement would be to title it in the format... Challenge Title - Entry Title so that others could compare it to the brown ribbon winner (if they were so inclined).

Edit to add:
This would truly make it a learning experience for the winners of the brown to see what could have been done to improve their shot. After all isn't that what this site is about?
