| I was stunned when my six year old daughter ask me this question. There is a message for me in that question. Taking pictures should not be monotony, it should be fun. |

Yes it should be fun. Even if you are doing it for a paycheck, photography should be fun.

I agree...
If you look at my challenge entries they just go up and down in score, sometimes 6's other times low fives.
I dont really care, i'm having a ball of a time! :p
I think sometimes you shoot a pic for fun, but then start to attach yourself to it too much, thinking it'll ribbon.
Thats when the fun kinda becomes competitive I would imagine. |

| my 5 year old daughter has asked me the same question. she also always needs to know what the challenge is and then she points out things that will fit in when she sees them. Shes come up with some pretty funky ideas. so shes finds the challenges fun too i think when shes asked that she just meant is it for myself or for a challenge not nessecarily that challenges arent fun. does that make sense? I do have a problem with taking the votes too seriously though. so i shut them off today lets hope i can get through the week without turning them back on. not sure though, thats a tall order. lol |

every once in a while i have to take a break for a month or so from here just to remind myself that i shoot for myself above everything else. and then i glance at the current challenges and notice that a shot i've taken fits in.
once in a while i'll go out and try to shoot for something specifically, but things don't just land in your lap (or at least not mine), the best shots i've taken are about 75% accidental.
edit to add that i'm still trying to slowly bump 'marching six by six' off my top scoring photos because i hate that shot, it was my first submission, and completely contrived just for the sake of the challenge. yes, there are other set up ones, like 'open your eyes', but i also had other reasons for taking it. i don't want something like my collections entry to pop up almost first on my page.
