One of my mothers friends want me to do some family portraits of her family once I get my good Fuji back, she wants them to be like the 'pixie' photos they do professionally here.. I would really like some ideas and things because she wants them inside and the lighting is pretty crap I dont have any big fancy lights or anything to improve it. Outside would be better then yeah?

So, you plan to shoot with a flash?, i am mean what will be your primary light

Well I don't particulary want to use the flash

Most will suggest you to have light from window with a reflector.
I would go with flash that can be bounced( i am not familiar with your camera) if flash cannot be bounced than try to diffuse it.

I am more comfortable with flash as compared using light from a window
