I have a point and shoot, not too good for these two open challenges. But the bokeh one is probably my best option.

here is one pic I recently took. Does it qualify for bokeh?

Yeah, absolutely! A nice shot! :)

The description says that the bokeh by itself is not very interesting. I beg to differ. Sometimes you need just a tiny bit of foreground to enhance the interesting bokeh in the background.

Any good for bokeh?

Loosely defined, bokeh is the quality and "feel" of the out-of-focus foreground or background elements of a photo. It isn't very interesting by itself, but take a photograph whose subject is enhanced by the bokeh of the background.

Interesting how the description defines bokeh as either foreground or background and then sort of points that it should be in the background. Not very well written IMO.

IMO...the background is what enhances the subject. Foreground bokeh if done right will enhance the score a little.

This is DICTATORSHIP! First they confine poor souls like myself to be excluded from the 30-seconds challenge (my camera cant do it) and now they give a controversial description for the Bokeh challenge. I'm so sad I need more than 10 minutes of ogling right about now...

I think bokeh is explained well...

...those tornado pics are pretty cool Crayon...

Yeeaahhh, my camera doesn't seem to do the DoF that bokeh would require, and since it's basic editing. That means I'm utterly screwed on both open exclusives this week. :P

Just kidding on that :) But seriously, voters should realize that Bokeh must not only be on the back of the subject. At times, a foreground Bokeh works much better!

Why not? Just use the longest focal length and use the largest aperture - that should work for your camera.

Yeah, use a long zoom to a fairl close foregrond and a background that is pretty far away, you can get some interesting bokeh with your P&S. BTW, start thinking macro mode ;-) *hint*

You're already a month ahead on your ogle-quota!

A good example of foreground bokeh IMO

From my own portfolio of course...

It's only controversial if you want to read it that way. If you want to be safe and avoid any controversy just do a shot that has a bokeh background and no foreground. Is that too difficult for you?

Who are "the DNMC people"? Aren't we all supposed to be DNMC people?

With the reverse 50mm in front of my zoom, I have a depth of field of 1/3mm. That should be shallow enough :)

Grrrrrrr, have a great bokeh shot, .... from yesterday afternoon. This will be fun a fun challenge.

Some people seem more DNMC-prone than others, I think that is what is hinted at here.

Would this qualify?

What is the difference between broken and bokeh? Or did they misspell it? If so then it should be broken III

I don't see much bokeh in that shot... sure there is some, but it's not really enough imo. Great picture though.

Bokeh is the out of focus effect in photography...
