If you go by challenge discription, it says "unnecessary luxury". "Indulge" has wider meaning such as Treat, Pleasure, Delight.

Obviously most people agree with you. I still maintain there is nothing luxurious about most of the indulgences in the entries.

"unnecessary luxury" is redunduntant, however, something can be unnecessary and not be a luxury. I think that is the element that is missing in most entries.

I really thought this was a strong image, but I think I keyed too much on the luxury aspect, even though it is quite unnecessary as well.

Oh well, I was on a 6+ roll there for while. Shawdows and Indulgence will put an end to that!

This is semantics, but "luxury" and "luxurious" have slightly different meanings.

"Luxurious" is most commonly used to mean "of a sumptuous, costly, or rich variety". If you look at the other definitions provided, they really aren't used in English with much frequency.

However, with regards to "luxury", there are three definitions used in equal measure:
"something inessential but conducive to pleasure and comfort"
"something expensive or hard to obtain"
"sumptuous living or surroundings".

So a luxury is not necessarily itself luxurious.

Aren't semantics FUN? :D

All definitions came from dictionary.com, if you care.

I'm running with a rather steady 5.6xxx and given how low the scores posted have been here, I'm rather happy with that.

I am new to this web site and this is my second challenge to vote on. I felt that only a small portion of the photos even met the topic, unnecessary luxury. How seriously do people take the topic of these challenges? Maybe I am being too critical on meeting the challenge details.

The ones I spend the most time on set up, lighting, re-shoot to get it just right are my lowest scoring entries. I thought this one was so 7+. Oh well, there's always another challenge!

Some day I will figure it out!!! One minute I am at 5.550 and rising with great comments and 10s then ZING "Here's a 3 for your trouble mate" or "I don't see it" -2 followed by "Great take on the challenge -10"

Maybe I would be better off not even looking!
