I'm all about Toyota and Honda. I just enjoy driving around for five years without having any problems with my vehicles. I'd get the Toyota Sequoia for sure. I don't think I'll ever buy a domestic vehicle.

GM has over 1.5 million E85 vehicles on the road TODAY! The full sized Chevy and GMC vehicles are solid choices. Their DoD (displacement on demand) V8 has some real converts in the power/economy circles. July, August and September will see end of year closeouts and possibly some good deals.

Regardless, the total value of the GM line is noteworthy.

The bottom line is dealership service, (no matter what brand you ultimately choose), so buy the product from the dealer with the best.

I'm all for Toyota and Honda myself. I drive a 98 honda accord with 130k miles on it. ONly thing we've ever done to is change the oil every 3000 miles, and the maintanance schedule.

I don't know anything about the Sequoia, but have heard great things about the highlander which I know is smaller. Safety wise the safety wise you need to check the rearend and whiplash collision tests. There are only a few SUV's that got a rating of "good" in that test.

Need to check the rollover rating also.

edit-
My parents buy a new GMC Yukon every fall- they sell the previous year and get all the upgrades on the new ones. They've been happy with them except the electrical problems they've had. The one they have right now has been in 3 times for the windows not work or the door not unlocking. My mom got locked in her own car for an hour before someone got there to get her out lol. NOt a bad thing my dad said hehehe.

Saj-

Didn't read through all of this thread but here's M2C.

Toyota "Sequoia"

Period.

You might remember a while back in this thread my wife rolled our 4Runner. Well we ended up getting a Sequoia and all I can say is DAMN! It's a sweet ride that will not do you wrong. I'm a Toyota owner and will most likely always be one, they are a bit on the expensive side out the gate but I've never had real issues with major parts / service issues on any of my Toyota trucks. In fact I have a 1995 T100 that I drive that has 214k miles on it and is still getting 17 MPG in the city and 20 MPG highway.

okay, I'm rambling...feel free to PM me if you have any questions for a Sequoia owner.

Honda doesn't currently make a vehicle in this class. I was looking at the following:

- 7+ passenger SUV
- 4 x 4
- High Towing capacity

The new Chevy Tahoe and the Toyota Sequoia were two of my top choices. The Dodge was 3rd. However, it was about $20,000 difference in sticker price between the Dodge and the other two. (We got a deal on an executive demo with 6,600 miles on it.)

Highlander is not a real truck. It's a crossover. I looked at the hybrid. It's front-wheel drive with only 65hp for the rear axle. That's no where near enough to pull a 6,000lb trailer.

The Sequoia was probably the nicest inside followed by the Chevy. (Though I confess I've never care much for the Forerunner/Sequoia exteriors.)

I tried the Nissan Armada and did not like it. Apparently it's supposed to be one of the quickest vehicles. Perhaps it is. But it felt sluggish to me. It drove like a U-haul IMHO. I will say they've got to have one killer suspension on that thing as I could barely budge it when I put my weight on the rear bumper.

Will my Dodge be as nice as a Sequoia or last as long? Nope. But I only intend to keep it for 100,000 miles. That's when the warranty runs up. And in 5-7 yrs nearly every vehicle will be a hybrid. And I will get a new SUV. And who knows. By then, we all may be talking about how "Kia" is the most reliable vehicle on the road. ;-)

You're parents must be quite wealthy.

Er...I recall all the vehicles I looked at having manual locks. Why didn't she just pull out the nob to unlock the door?

I WANT ONE!!
They come as a SUV also

All I can think of is someone must be compensating for something.

Um, this is "Shaq's" truck. I've seen his shoe on display before. This is one of those rare cases that I would suspect the "compensation" issue is not part of the issue.

In truth, I think it's because his legs are so long that he sits in the second row in order to drive.

Sure, for Shaq, but how many other guys driving these things are "Shaq-sized"?

Oh, I thought it was the only one...

It's kinda like being criticized by Barbara Streisand for driving my SUV. This after she just flew in her private jet and burned more fuel in a day than I probably will burn in a decade.

For your further consideration...

Toyota recall

"Toyota Motor Corp. said Tuesday it was recalling 418,570 vehicles globally, including some Echo and Prius models sold in the U.S., over a faulty engine part.

The faulty part is the latest in a string of problems requiring recalls by Toyota, raising doubts over whether the automaker can maintain quality standards..."

"Earlier this month, the company recalled 367,500 Toyota and Lexus sport utility vehicles in the U.S. because a piece in the front console area could come loose and interfere with the gas pedal."

All manufacturers at some point have a customer problem with quality.
