I just noticed that the AVERAGE score in "Take Two" is 5.908. and the midrange score is 5.951. A cursory run through challenge history seems to indicate that this is, by a substantial amount, the highest-scoring challenge ever if we exclude the "Masters Free Study" of a couple years ago.
This one outscored the last three "best of" challenges by about three tenths of a point each...
I donno about y'all, but I find this heartening :-)

Very heartening; it means that as a group we are all able to apply lessons learned in here effectively :-)

Makes sense to me. I think there were other voters out there like me who voted based on improvement from the original so those got good scores as well as the regular images that were just plain good to begin with scoring well also which lead to higher than average challenge. Well that's my theory anyway.

You have to go down to 64th place to see an image under 6.0 :-) Wowza!

You can read a lot of things into this stat. Interesting when the anonymous nature of the challenge is removed the voting is higher.

Yeah, for sure. That's the joker in the deck. But I don't think that accounts for the dramatic improvement in scores, really. I don't think they'd have climbed as much as they did if, in fact, most people had failed at improving their shots, or at least at making them more memorable or attractive...
I look at the top-30 images and don't get any sense of the "most popular" photographers dominating, anyway. Certainly not out of proportion to their past performance...
