I am trying to use the lasso tool and the image I am trying to make selections on keeps sliding around my monitor so that when I start with the lasso tool, the picture jumps to the right and now I cannot see the image and the lasso tool wants to select the gray background area of the PS editor.
Does this make sense? I am so frustrated...I just want my picture to remain stationary so I can select little areas with my pen. Instead it slides around my monitor...I can see the slider bars at the bottom and right side...and I want to do away with them but I don't know how.
How do I make the program keep the image stationary on my monitor? I have a 19" LCD display so the size of the monitor is not an issue. I can see the entire image on the screen.
Help!

You can see the entire picture, ie its not zoomed in or anything?
If so I'm not sure what the problem is, sounds weird... hopefully someone else has some ideas cause I'm clueless. Sorry.

| Wonder if you could be using the magnetic lasso.....has a mind of it's own!! Right click on the tool and there are 3 options Lasso, Polygon Lasso and Magnetic Lasso |

If I get this right, as your mouse hits the edge of the image, it starts to move the image to keep the mouse pointer near the center? I have CS2 and it does the same thing. Very annoying and I can't figure out how to turn it off either. I used to use version 7 and it never did anything like that.
Sorry I couldn't help, but at least you're not alone.
PS - I should mention even if I'm zoomed most of the way out, ie. whenever my mouse pointer nears the edge.

Yes, Shane...exactly!
Sue,
It is the magnetic lasso but it also happens with the polygon one as well...
I am so annoyed. |

Is the window (not pse3 but the canvas) maximized?
If so moving the mouse to the edge will move the canvas. Try "restore down" so it appears as a window within pse3.

| I'm not sure if this will address the issue or not.....if you hold down the space bar, a hand symbol will appear and you can move your image around where ever you want. After getting the image in the desired location on your screen, release the space bar and resume making your selecton. Hope this helps! |

The lasso is designed to ''lasso'' what ever you're trying to draw around. The reason that it's doing that is because your image is obviously enlarged and the edges are not visible. You must be able to see the whole object that you are lassoing. Once you get the desired image, you let go of your mouse and you will see the area highlighted (also called marching ants). You can then create a path and using the points tool, you can manuver the line around the area you want to work with.
Does this make sense? If it's as ''clear as mud'' you can also go to www.adobe.com and they have many wonderful tutorials for just this kind of thing.
Good Luck! |

The images are not enlarged and I can see the edges.
There is a gray background that the image is on and I can take the hand tool and move the image all around the gray area. I don't want to be able to do that.
I don't know how to "restore down"...I keep looking but cannot find anything. |

I think I got it.
If I click the "automatically tile windows" in the upper right corner, it makes the new window size the exact size of the image and now it doesn't move around anymore.
Thanks for the advice all. |
