I was goofing around and googled my name today. I was shocked to find out that someone with the same name as me is listed as a contributor to a small regional magazine. If my name was common I wouldn't give it a second thought, but c'mon - Thom LaLonde - first name spelled the same way and everything? I emailed them to see what's going on. Maybe it really IS a coincidence. |

hmm.. anything is possible i guess but your name makes it less coincidental. wont hurt to look into it though. just to be careful. my daughters name is Odyssey if someone had not only her first name but her last too i'd be VERY skeptical. so i know what you mean. hope its nothing. |

I think your name is too rare for that sort of coincidence! Keep us updated!

Did they use one of your pictures, too? I'm confused. |

But don't be too paranoid. If the magazine is a legitimate one, chances are it's coincidence. I'm certain you're not the only Thom LaLonde on the planet (don't be too upset by that). ;) |

I fail to see the problem here.
Neither the name Thom or Lalonde are rare, and I for one have oodles of friends called LaLonde. The mere fact that someone is a contributor to a magazine does not in my book constitute something to be alarmed about.
Do keep us posted.

a lsight shift to the left - there's a wonderful book called are you dave gorman?. in it (it's true) davea nd his mate danny wallace search for dave gormans. danny thinks his name is very common - well they meet hundreds of dave gormans, and about 3 danny wallces. so, you may not be as rare as you think!
i, on the other, know i'm pretty well unique! nah nah nahnah nah! ;-)

Yeah, I know I'm probably not the only one out there with this name, but the magazine is very localized so that makes the coincidence even more intriguing. The publication is Lake Superior Magazine. Guess I'll just try to pick up a copy. I see them everywhere but never bothered to read it. |

I'm confused here, the title of this thread is "Strange coincidence or image theft?" Did you find one of your imagaes in one of his articles? Or are you referring to "Image" as in someone with your same name getting publicity? If it's the latter, I guess it's a case of first come first served. If he's using your image, now that's something to be concerned about!

Switchboard.com shows 9 listings for "Thomas Lalonde" in Michigan, and 1 in Minnesota.
Edit: If you google "'Thomas Lalonde'writer" many hits show up. It's my guess that guy is a writer and not photographer.

Searching "Peter Richards", I get several hundred thousand results. Strangely enough, it would appear that all of them are me. |

I have been running across others named Rebecca Lehmann for just about all my life. How common do you think that would be at first glance? One lives in the same rather large city as my grandmother, and she occasionally gets her mail somehow. One is a poet - and I am also a published poet. Another is an artist living in the UK. Interestingly, the UK gal's husband found me on Myspace last week while googling his wife, and emailed me to ask what my middle name is since he saw that the initial is J, which is also his wife's middle initial. And he's a photographer. Life is full of coincidences.

It's bad enough having a very common name, but just trying having a name that some guy made famous. I can't go to the DMV, Post Office, cash a check at the bank, dentest appoint, etc., without someone making a big deal about it. I get UPS packages where someone likes to write "Air" between my first name (Michael) and my last name (Jordan). Shoot, when I banked where this other guy's mother banked, the bank even tried to cash a $17,000 check against my account. They called me up to ask me where the account that had money in it was. LOL!
At least the other Michael Jordan made our famous and not in-famous like some names are. I can at least be gratefull for that. Well, I'd be more gratefull if I had at least half his money.

It means you should put 8.5"x11" (letter) paper in the appropriate cassette.
Or smack the poor printer around a bit. |

Hmmm, you caused me to google my own name - it appears that I'm the only Petra Paignton in the whole known universe. Yay! :D |
