| Hi! Lately I've been shooting alot of sports and action photography outdoors. I'm thinking of continuing this and realize that I will most likely need a new lens for indoor shots with mixed lighting (basketball, volleyball, wrestling, etc.). What lens would you recommend for this type of shooting? Thanks! |

I've had good success shooting HS basketball with Canon's EF 85mm f1.8. It's not quite up to L glass quality but is pretty sharp and moderately priced. If you have a more generous budget, the Canon EF 135mm f2.0 L gets great reviews. In better light conditions I use a f2.8 zoom. With my 28-70 I can sit almost underneath the basket. 70-200 will allow you to shoot both ends of the the court from anywhere near mid-court.

Look at my list of lens sets.
I shoot sports as well.
If you are serious about sports, take the time to do your homework on lens. I like fast, prime lens sets for the most part when I am indoors. A 2.0f or faster is the minimum for indoors, so therefor I only use a couple for indoor shots.
My telephotos I use for outdoor stuff along with my primes.
A second body is almost a must if you plan to make money on shots.
A camra body that has a burst rate of 8 fps is alot better than a burst rate of 3 or 5 fps.

| Thanks for the info - I *knew* there would be people here who could give me some recs. I don't have a budget, per se; I'm just starting to look into this. Like most people, I want to get the best lens I'm able to, which means I may have to sell ALOT of outdoor shots to get the money for a new lens in order to move indoors. I'll definitely take a look at the lenses mentioned here. Thanks! |

| I use a 80-200 f2.8 indoors and I don't have too much trouble with it. Depends on what sport because the lighting is different for each. I do end up having to use ISO 1600 but that just comes with the territory. I'm sure you'd still be using 1600 with a 1.8 lens. |

I use and 'love' the canon 70-200 f2.8 IS. Great for the tight shot and the reach for both ends of the arena is way to good...
