HI,
I have thousands of RAW images which I haven't had time to process yet. I burn all my RAW files to DVDs and I also keep a copy on my external HD. Eventually, I would like to have them available for my own pleasure so I wanted to process them. Here is where my problem starts. Should I process and save them in the best quality my devices can handle or should I make them the best they can be in case in the future I can buy better output devices.
If I make them the best they can be the disadvantage is that they will be huge and it will be hard to make slideshows out of them and I will need more storage. The advantage would be that if I ever do get better quality monitor/projector when they come out I won't have to process the pictures again.
So, what should I do? |

I keep the RAW and a 620px version for browsing and the normal web-sized I use on my web-site. I just re-create a large version from the RAW when I need it. It's a risk that RAW files will be readable in the future but until I see more DNG support that is what I do.
If the image is edited in PS then I generate a big TIFF file from the RAW file, do the edits and keep the .PSD plus whatever output JPG I created at whatever size - sometimes also the TIFF from the RAW creator (I don't have a recent PS that processes RAW files directly, so use RSP). |
