I had a thread here giving away a free ebook on photography, it was closed because it was a "commercial advertisement" It was not an advertisement at all since I was giving it away for free. This is a 37 page ebook on photography covering the following subjects:
Freelance photography and you
Should you be in business for yourself?
Weddings
Portraits
Cards
Newspapers
Specialty photography
Models
Copyrighting your work
Establishing your business
If you want this ebook for free you should register your protest with the SC & Admins by filling out a general inquiry form at the link bellow, like I said to the SC there are threads on this site that are true "commercial advertisements" and they are still open I'm giving away a free ebook and it gets closed, go figger. I know a lot of people took the offer within a few minutes of me posting it so it can't all that bad.

I did that once and overlooked the fact that ebooks are copyright material, and you may not have the right to sell or give it away to other people, unless you actually receive confirmation from the author/publisher that you can give it away or sell it.
I have almost 1 GB worth of ebooks on Photoshop and photography but I ain't distributing them for the same reason.
Edit : Unless the ebook you were giving away was written by you, in which case it is totally different.

In addition to giving a way the ebook, you were signing them up for your mailing list...

While you did note that they could unsubscribe, the purpose of your giving away this ebook was to build your mailing list. This was your first post in our forums, and it *was* a commercial advertisement. |

there's something strange about people giving away free stuff.
There must be something in it for you?
it looks as though you've joind this site specifically to get peoples email addresses.
And the link on your page goes to a site that can't even spell:
To download the hobby of photography enter your email bellow.

Also, and I'm not saying that you are doing this...
but I got a free guitar secrets ebook the other day, give us your email and we will send you the link to download it. That dude will not go away now, 2 emails a day whining and beggin me to sign up for this or that seminar or buy something. Seems his opt out button don't work either.
Just my procede with caution note... |

Our standard protocol when a user's first and only post to the forums is giving something, selling something, or promoting something after just registering to teh site is to hide it.
Become part of the community. Let us get to know you. Then, stuff like this flies.
Don't need to make the SC out to be the bad guy. We are simply trying to keep the forums enjoyable.

37 pages on that range of topics ? seems shallow ...
why not just put them on the web ?

People here have given away cameras and memberships -very altruistic of them, and they don't ask for anything in return.
this seems to be different - apparently he was building an email list, and now wants us to spam the SC.
just the sort we want here at DPC, right? Well, maybe not.

Who's ebook is it? Are you the author? Is there a website where I can read more about this ebook?
There are lots of established, reputable places on the internet for people who want them to find ebooks. I don't want to see dpc get to become a place where people think they can always get free promotion of products, or solicit donations. We already have too much of that going on here. And it's not really free if you have to give up an e-mail addy for use by who knows how many spammers.

I'm a fullmember on another account, I didn't wont to post using that account because I new I would get flammed by at least some people. It wouldn't be hard to workout what the other account is, I'm sure the SC or Admin know by now anyway.
I don't make any profit from my ebooks, yes I have an ebay store I do it because I enjoy doing it, the store has never made a profit, most weeks I don't even cover the ebay fees.
I have full Resale Rights to this and all my other ebooks and that is clearly maked in the book as the rights are passed to anyone who is given or buys this book, the SC and Admins have a copy of the book so they know this as well as I do. (if they did open the book)
Hobbie is spelt hobby in the book therefore it is spelt hobby on the website.
Yes, you have to sign up to mailing list to get the book, but in the first message along with the download links is a unsubscribe link and there will be in every other email ever sent.
There will be very few emails, one a month at the most and in every one of those emails I would be giving away free photography ebooks. Only very rarely will there be anything for sale, but when there is your under know obligation to buy and it would be photography related ebooks and products at a heavily reduced price.
Yes, my unsubscribe links work. |

Creating a duplicate account, which is also against the rules, to advertise your junk is even lamer than just advertising it in the first place. I don't think anyone is interested in mass protest to the SC for this. Put them up on a website if you're so eager to give them away for no price. |
