Why not have 11?

It's one louder. When you realy want to go over the cliff, you can go to 11.

Bonus points to the first one that can name the movie!

We have a winner. Technically it's "This is Spinal Tap" but the judges will accept your answer.

Funny funny movie

You could also get rid of the numbers and make it all yes/no voting. Put two photos side by side and people just pick one that is better. The yes vote continues until another photo beats it. One with the highest yes votes wins.

Thanks for your grace, Mr Alex Trebec

The three others by Christopher Guest are pretty good ones as well.

Actually the problem with 5 is that most voters assume (incorrectly) that it is true average. On a scale of 1-10 5.5 is the real average. So, Getting rid of the 5 makes 6 average. Hmmm... doesn't that mess things up a bit?

This is an excellent reason to eliminate 5. Then perhaps 0 could be allowed. That way voters would not be able to take a middle of the road stance on an image. The DNMC crowd should like it. It would give them an even cleaner way to rate images low and they are always looking for that. LOL!!!.

I am puzzled by just how you arrived at the conclusion that the DNMC " crowd: "rate images low and they are always looking for that..." I for one on occasions find images that I honestly do not believe meet the criteria set forth in the challenge... or may have been "shoe horned" in, but can state unequivocally that I seldom dole out 1 scores simply because of my belief.

This is but another generalization that I encounter, which no one to date can substantiate.

So, basically what you are saying is that those that talk about the DNMC crowd... DNMC of producing data ;-)

It may be a generalization but that doesn't mean it's never true. I vote images I don't think meet the challenge a 1.

The key words are "I don't think".

1-10 scale is alright, but I'd like to see them get rid of the '3'.

Sometimes it's very obvious that a certain photo doesn't meet the challenge, but other times it can be very subjective. Of course, being subjective doesn't mean you shouldn't vote *any* lower if you think an image DNMC, because the voting's all about the viewer's opinion, but to automatically give the worst possible score seems kind of harsh.

The problem I see with this is when you get to the later photos. What happens if you take the current green challenge and have one picture from the middle and then you have the very last picture which you like even more...that picture from the middle will still win because you've clicked yes more times. That's where I see the problem in that system.

But I'm in the mindset that 5 is still ok. If the picture is "just average", then it's "just average". However, I do like the slider idea.

I think the only way to significantly change the scoring would be to go to a ranking system, where each person ranks each photo from best to worst, with cumulative rankings determining the winner.

The major drawbacks are that it takes a lot longer, and I think it requires everyone to vote on all the images.
