I went to a weekend trip to Stockholm, Sweden from last friday to monday with my wife Henny and our son Alexander who is three and a half years old. It was just a "get away for a weekend trip", went to the tivoli, zoo, to a museum to see an old ship that I told Alexander was a pirate ship (he is obsessed with pirates, hehe) and he got to stay up late and all of that, was really fun.

Of course the camera came along and while most of it was just basic family stuff I took pictures off, these photos are what was most memorable to me from this trip, I am completely blown away by them! I dunno, to most of you they are probably nothing special but to me they are spectacular. They all have something in common though, anyone care to guess what that is?

I'm guessing little Alexander got Daddy's photography gene. :-) Too cute!

Soooo... when does he get to enter challenges? :)

These are really nice. I can fully understand why you take such pride in them.

I'd say he definitely got Daddy's photography gene. :-) They're great! I'd be proud of them too.

Hehe, damn, I thought some of you would at least wonder what the heck I was going on about these photos and the first person get´s it right and not even after 5 minutes :)

These photos are right out of the camera, no cropping, just resizing and auto curves. What impresses me the most is that these are the first photos he has ever taken apart from maybe 5-10 a couple of months ago when he got it into his head that he wanted to take a couple of his little sister, Monika. Also what impressed me is that of the 50-60 photos, just one photo where he cut off our heads and I think that was accidental, it was a last of a series and I think he accidentally clicked the shutter trying to take off the camera and also only 4-5 of them were out of focus.

Sorry guys, I guess I am just a proud father :) I have never ever ever pushed a camera on him, I want him and his sister to find their own way and own hobbies, I don´t want to be one of those parents who lives out their dreams through their kids. I can´t deny though I´d be extatic if either him or Monika want´s to take up photogaphy, I can promise you that I´ll be the most supportive parent in the universe if that will be the case :D

woohoo, at last (well in a few years) someone to put larus in his place lol.

I know they say to take pictures of children get down to their level but a 3 1/2 year old taking pictures of adults? thats a great perspective!.

Looking at those photos it's hard to believe they were taken by someone that young. You have every right to be extremely proud.

Dude, it´s so funny you should say that because it´s mine too, along with the very first one of me and Henny. Seriously, look at the nr´s on the images. That one is 4204 and the next one is 4205. What I like about them is that he didn´t compose them the same, he actually moved and tried another angle! Totally unprompted by me, I swear!!!, cause I was too busy taking a photo of him taking a photo with my crap ass cell phone camera, that black shadow in the upper right conrer is my big butt.

I told him earlier that day that I was so impressed by his photos that if he saw anything, ANYTHING he wanted to photograph he just had to ask for the camera and it would be no problem. 4-5 hours later when we were back at the hotel, he suddenly got the idea to photograph that dinosaur, a toy we got him earlier that day that he had been playing with non stop since then. He actually set up the whole shot too, he put the dino "up on the mountain" as he called it, it was just lying ont he floor and he didn´t think it looked cool enough.

Well going to sleep now but I thought since the "jig" is up I´d comment on the photos to better explain them and the thought process he had behind them.

Here I had been taking pictures of him with his mother and actually asked him to take one of us, he just wanted to take one but I was 100% sure that our heads were missing or that it was out of focus (it´s taken at f2, iso 800 and 1/125, late in the evening) so I asked him to take one more and again and again, 5 photos in general. This was the first one and all 5 were composed the same and all in focus. I actually got speachless, this is pretty much his first photograph.

Shot made with the 16-35 at 16mm, I like how he included the bag in the frame.

He got really excited when we saw these monkeys at the zoo and took a bunch of photos of them, I think they are called lemurs, most of them were pretty good but this one I really liked the composition.

These are pretty self explanatory except for that he STYLIZED the photos, told us to kiss and then told Henny to leave and for me to make a funny face cause I had done that just minutes before of him :)

Just thought this one was funny and so did he, he said I looked funny (taken at 16mm again)

Here again he stylized us, told us to growl like wolves wich we gladly did :)

Here he again asked for the camera, he was so enchanted by the castle and then he saw a bird in the latter photo and snapped away. No bird in the photo though, think he was just imagining it but I liked the composition in it.

Here I had just taken a pretty indentical photo of him and his mother and he wanted to take one of us, told me to hug her and then he told me to leave for the second photo, he just wanted to take pictures of his mother! Cant say that I blame him, hehe :)

Here, like I said before I had encouraged him to ask for the camera if he saw just about anything he wanted to take a picture of. He got this dinosaur toy from us hours before when we got Monika something since she didn´t come with us. I thought his short attention span had forgotten all about my promise to lend him the camera but suddenly he asked for it, set up these shots and snapped away :)

Again, I want to make clear that these images are not edited in any way except for curves and resizing, they are straight out of the camera and totally uncropped.

How about the rest of you guys, do your kids take photos too or...?

Well, obviously Icelanders are BORN photographers. THIS was my daughter's first day with a camera. Not bad for a 2mp Powershot A60, I thought.

Glad you enjoyed your trip.

Last summer we went to Dearborn, MI - saw the Henry Ford and Greenfield Village and those pics mean more to me than most any others from last year.

My only regret - i didn't take enough of the family having fun! and well, there are none of me having fun. I now have 2 bodies, so that second part will be remedied.

My 5 year old loves to shoot pics. My profile pic is one he took with his $20 christmas camera (since broken, but it was junk anyway)

My daughter takes photos. One is entered in green. Then again, she IS 23..... guess that doesn't count, eh?
She's had a camera since she was about 8 or 9, and is creative, but until she got her digital and can afford to experiment she always preferred other crafty-type things. Slow bloomer but I think she could do well :)

But at his age, that is FANTASTIC!! :D

mine's started. i've given him my mum's old coolpix. we've got some nice ones, he's beginning to set up shots a little. he's got the walkling around, looking intently, going 'hmmm' bit down pat (gee wonder where he got that?). when he gets the fingers out of the frame, he'll be pretty good!

he'll be three in august.

Very impressive!

I've passed on my p&s to my 5yo daughter. She does quite well with it.

For a 3yo to do some work like that though, he's good!

These are amazing! My favorite is the one of you guys kissing at the tree. Very nice rule of thirds ;)

My children have digital cameras. We got them cheap ones for Xmas, and they broke the day after! So, I hopped on ebay and got them each an HP PhotoSmart 618. It's only 2MP, but they do very good with them. My daughter is just learning how to set shots up. She will get her toys in a group and take various pictures of them. She will stop and ask Daddy or I if she can take a picture. My son, doesn't seem too into it, but that's ok.

Here is my favorite picture that my daughter took....

Just like mommy! :D

Hehe, thanx for all the kind words on behalf of my son and fun to read similar stories about your kids and their photography, this thread has really put me into a good mood :)

Alexander sends his best, here he is at the tivoli with his mother, he is practicing his royal waving for when he marries some princess :)

Here he is getting ready to take the dinosaur photo

And here is taking the photo :)

And here he is right after I took the camera away from him at one point :)

(just kidding with the last one, he is so fun at posing when he gets in a mood for it, I told him to be a "tough guy" so this is his "tough guy expression)

As a father (my daughter is 25 so I am an experienced father I guess) these shots would make me feel so very proud of my child.

As a photographer this is depressing: a child with better image composition than me!

Just kidding: you should feel proud.
