My mother in law just got an L358 sekonic meter today and she brought it over for me to play with...one problem no matter what setting i set iso 100-8000, f1-f22..it just flashes "EV" and "u" on the screen. I've even held it up to a lamp and it does the same thing as above. Am I doing something wrong or did we get a broke meter?

Do you know what mode it was in?
ie: in corded flash mode it will always show underexposure if you've not got a cabled flash on it, also in cumulative mode you can get some weird readings...

Just got one too about a week ago and haven´t really learned how to use it yet but from my limited experience KiwiChris i correct, just set the mode to read ambient lighting and not flash metering, that won´t work unless you are measuring monolights and are plugged into them.
Just read the manual :) |

Bummer... That's uncommon for Sekonic gear, it's pretty good kit in general.
