They also just recently purchased second hand, a LG HDD / DVD Combo Recorder. They got a sweet deal on it, but they do not have to pay anything to record off of the sat. Given, they can't record something while they are watching something else, but they have 2 other tv's with sat so it's not a problem for them. I am very impressed with the Recorder.

Where did you buy this at?

They bought it from a guy through the bargin finder, but I know you can get something similar from Future Shop (basically a Canadian BestBuy) as well as BestBuy themselves.

Oh yes, don't forget, you have to put some $$ aside for a DVR/PVR, which is a HUGE life improvement!!!

Do some research on DVR/PVR's.

Any out there that you DON"T have to pay a monthly service fee?

Well, depends on how you look at it. We have one that's included in our Comcast package. The second one was $4 or $6 a month, I'd have to look at the bill again. At least for the first one that's sort of like no monthly fee. However, you can always build one yourself with as many tuners and as much hard drive space as you want or as you can fit in your enclosure or as your budget will allow.

Rear projection DLP/LCD/HD-ILA(JVC)/SXRD(Sony) versus Plasma is somewhat of an apples to oranges comparison. Each has their strengths and weaknesses and what works for you may not work for someone else.

I have a *front* projection Sanyo PLV-Z2 and a High Contrast 92" screen because I mainly watch DVD movies and HD nature/editorial programming. Rear projection is not suitable for my living room, so I've hidden a pulldown screen on the wall. If I had room, Sony's new lower end SXRD rear projection TVs would be on my list.

Don't get sucked into the hype about 1080p, as significant content is too far on the horizon to legitimately affect your decision.

As for cables...it's true that good cables are able to take your image to another level, but Monster Cables are way, way overpriced. Companies like //www.bluejeanscable.com and //www.RAMElectronics.net provide truly superior cabling for a more reasonable price.
