Ok I feel stupid. Im new to this game and just trying to get up to speed. I'm not comfortable yet with working with RAW files, but apparently that's the standard and I can apparently get better photos that way. Now my problem is that I've taken some pics in RAW and imported them into the software I got with my camera--I can't find them now!
If I go into the Master software I can find them. But if I go into the hard drive I can't find the files. I can't find the folders that the Master software imported the files into. Can anyone help in locating these files? Are they lost forever into my Master software?
Thanks

Evidently they are in a folder under the Olympus software.
Have you tried Start, Search, C Drive, Files & Folders, then enter *.ORF ?
That should find all Olympus RAW files on your drive. |

I don't use that software but I think the folders are created under the Master Software folder. The best thing to do is just use Windows Search and search for one of the file names. That should then give you the full path to the files. Hope this helps.

Does that still happen if rather than importing the photos into Olympus Master, you just open the memory card drive, and copy & paste across to your files? Thats what I do, and then I know where they are.

I tried searching for .ORF files. So far nothing--I'm still trying variations of that search.
From now on I will just drag and drop into a new folder and edit files that way. Live and learn I guess. |

This is probably the best bet to ensure they get there and you know where they are. I have tried to use that software from Olympus and never really liked it. If you can, search some of the threads for what others use, there are some free ones that work well. I use PhotoShop CS and love the control I have in it...although I'm far from being perfect at it.
Also highly recommend setting up a work flow to protect your originals during coversion.
As a last ditch effort, if you can't figure it out PM me and I'll send you an address you can send your E-300 to (mine) lol. j/k |

haha
thanks for the help and the offer to take the E-300 off my hands. I am sure there are better cameras out there (plenty of them), but for me right now I have so much to learn about SLR photography and photography in general I think the E300 is a fine learning tool. When I bought it I wasn't sure what i would eventually want (features wise), but I found that it seemed the E-300 offered the most features for the money. I'm just trying to figure them all out--hard to do sometimes when you consider I've never really had any formal photography training.
I'm getting ready to (hopefully) upgrade my lens from the kit lens to the 14-45mm ED ZUIKO lens--which is a little closer to professional level. I'm hoping this will help increase some of the quality of my photos (along with continued practice, practice, practice).
I think that the photos that are locked up in the Master Software are early enough in my experience that it probably isn't much lost. I'll change the way I import photos from now on. I've also downloaded RAWshooter essentials. I'll try that and see how it goes. I'll be a student (yet again) in a few months and if I can afford the photoshop CS2 at that point I might upgrade my photoshop to that. We'll see. Alot of this depends on my ability to convince my wife that we "need" these things--she's more interested in buying a house, furniture, food, etc right now. She likes shooting too--but isn't as "obsessed" as I am. Ironically, she's much better at photography (raw talent-wise) than I am.
Thanks for your help

My wife is the same way, she is actually really good at portraits and has so much fun setting the people up and such but doesn't think she is good enough to photograh them and makes me do it. Our daughter also has some nice raw talent but just has too many other things she would rather do...she's 15 so I expect that lol.
I'm getting stationed in Okinawa in August and am looking to upgrade my camera to any of the evolt. Just found the e500 at a local store for 729 with the one lens but I think I'd like to go with both, guess I could just buy the other somewhere else. I really like the Olys I've owned so I am really going to try to stay with them.
Look forward to seeing some images soon.
