Has anyone got some tips on file saving workflow?

I'm getting bogged down with the amount of files that are created during my work flow process. Below is a Eg:

>"1.jpeg" File saved from Cf card to "Working Folder" on desktop from shoot

>File edited in CS2 and saved as 1.psd. Saved to "Adobe Edited Folder"(now I have 1.jpeg and 1.psd file)

>1.psd file resized for web uploads as 150kb file. Saved to "Photos for web upload folder" (1.jpeg, 1.psd, 1-edited-for-web.jpeg)

>If I have shot in raw, Saved to "Original Raw Neg Folder" (1.jpeg, 1.psd, 1-edited-for-web.jpeg), 1.cr2) makes a total of 4 files of the same photo at the enormous size of 40 meg or so.

If anyone has a more stream lined process i'd love to hear from you befor i run out of backup drives!!!!

Also is there a plugin to view thumbnails of psd files in windows folders?

At the end of the week all files are transfered to my back up drive

Welcome to digital photography my friend.

I believe you can answer your own question by following these steps...

Do you need the original .jpg?
Do you need the .psd?
Do you need the web .jpg?
Do you need the raw negative?

Ok...then no, there is nothing you can do.

I have four versions of all my files too, thats what happens when you are looking to save one for print, have one with all your layers in tact, have the original, and have one for the web.

Only thing I would say is that I usually delete my web .jpg's after i upload them because I can always pull them back off the server.

While I'm working with everything, I often end up in your situation. However, when I trasfer everything to my files on the external HD, I only transfer the original jpeg/RAW and the edited TIFF version.

Anything for web gets tossed, as do any Photoshop files. It's a bit of a tradeoff - I'd have to recreate files, but at the same time, I don't use up my 100GB so fast.

If your shooting in jpeg why save the original? If you are saving the .psd that should be enough. Just always work on a duplicate layer so the original layer is always intact.

I will delete a converted tiff if I have a psd. But I am struggling with deleting the raw files. What if later on I want to reconvert it? Saving a raw and a psd seems like alot of space.

Ah my head hurts!!!

Unfortunatlly my wife uses a lot of my shots for her Scrapbooking and she has a reluctance to change, so uses Corel PP (as once did i!) There for i have to keep a Jpeg file for her to work on if she needs to... (crop, change contrast, ect)

I like to keep the PSD file with the layers so as to replicate effects to similar shots that i already have. how many of you folks keep the original RAW file after u have edited in CS2?
