Anyone else hate that "leaning" thing you see on some of the architecture shots? They make me nauseous LOL - but I really do not like them as they do not seem to add anything positive to the image.

I've had a bad week (my hours were cut from 8 to 2 at work) , so perhaps I'm just a bit grumpy :)

No, it's not just you!
Tilted horizons and leaning buildings make me uncomfortable.
There are so many of them I began to worry that "transform - skew" might be lleagal.

That's what you get when you shoot without the ability to use a shift lens or a large format camera that lets you adjust the perspective with tilt and swing.

The leaning is what we call parallax or the tilting of the subject due to the positioning of the focal plane. It's also referred to as convergence due to perspective. The closer you are to the subject while tilting the camera upwards, the worse it gets ;)

As tmhalling had mentioned, without the use of PS or a TS lens, you will always get this result.

Without PS or TS lens this is what you get:

With a TS lens, this is the result:

Hi Rikki...

I meant the ones that are intentionally at a 35 degree angle! One was even at a 180!

Parallax happens and it's especially hard to do anything about it with editing rules. It's surprising how little it disturbs, actually, but skewed pictures are a pain. Hitchcock used angles to a disturbing advantage.

Builders use plum bobs.

Pissed is pissed - even if Americans think it means something else.

I don't like them very much either and it's a shame, because some of them are really good when they would have had their feet on the ground.
I find it hard to vote on them, because every time I look at them, my stomach's playing up like I'm getting sea sick.

It is also frustrating when your building is actually on a lean in reality but people think it is only the way you took your picture.
