I took these with 35-80mm with 25mm extension tube at 1/500 ASO 200 f9 with flash on camera. I was experimenting with these little colorful 1/4 inch flies. I would shoot one sitting on a leaf, the flash would spook them, and into the air they flew. I didn't realize what was happening at first. I took a bunch that were just leaf, they are so fast. Hope you enjoy.

Beautiful crisp and sharp shots. The colors are amazing. Wish I could do it with my camera :)

Flies can be interesting. The closest I could reach was with this one -

thumbnails look neat, but the actual pictures aren't as good. did you crop a lot to get these pictures ? I can't see much detail...

Seems like tight cropping. Image size is around 90KB which should be good for decent resolution.

The depth of field was so narrow 1/8" or less, it was hit or miss. Will be trying it again one of these days with less extension for more depth. I have many right-on shots of the sitting, but in flight shots were difficult to get anything in focus. Anyone have any ideas on dof on flying flies that are about 1/4" and fly quite fast?
