I'm trying to get better at my outdoor photography - any comments on these pics would be greatly appreciated.

This is my favorite of your shots! Great photo. The fence has character, and you really captured the run of it. You can feel it goes way off in the distance.

I feel these are over-exposed and don't work for me. I find myself wanting to squint...

The rest are average...somewhat soft on focus...not super clear or ordinary scenes. It takes work to make the ordinary look extraordinary, doesn't it?

Keep shoot'n...

thanks! I really appreciate the honest feedback. I've been out all day walking around outside taking pics, and I thought i'd just see what people thought of those.

you're right about being bright and over-exposed, I've seen so many cool shots of an object highlighted with the sun behind them and I wanted to give it a try. I'll tone down the exposure next time - thanks!

Field of Bales
I feel this one would have more depth with about -1/3 to -1/2 stop of exposure. That would give the vast field of green more appeal for me. At the same time, above the horizon is significantly over exposed and blown out. A graduated neutral density filter will resolve that issue for you (I just ordered two of them, one for each lens). You can always edit in a different sky to improve it, but that is not challenge legal. I've done that with quite a few shots ofmy own for display, printing, etc.
Compositionally, the bales seem very far away, and you have a shadow line in the foreground. A few steps forward would have excluded the shadow line and brought the bales a little closer.

Hay Composed...
Same issue with the sky.. ND filters will work wonders... Flash on low power would have shed some light on the bale, bringing out some of its detail and color. Compositionally, It is better for main subjects to be off center. (have you heard of the rule of thirds?).

Hope that helps to comment on a couple... Nice work and keep experimenting!

good call on the off center - ill have to try that. I have heard of the rule of thirds...i just wasn't in that frame of mind at the time :)

yeah, i would love to get my hands on a filter or something - maybe i just have to under expose those type of pics - i love pics with the sun highlighting something in the background and i want to get better at them.

thanks for the feedback - greatly appreciated.
