		| | I wanted so badly to convert my Past challenge entry to sepia tones...but by following the rules, I couldn't.
So, are the people who sepia-toned in one way or another allowed because their camera offers that option?

It's a great advantage, that's for sure! I wish my camera would have allowed that...

In general, I think you are better off applying sepia and B&W in your image editing software. You have MUCH more control over how it looks, the tones, etc. With filters and built-in sepia, you are at the mercy of the camera. I did see a few really good camera created B&W and sepia however, but I don't think that's the "norm" in most cases.

		| | a cokin filter? sepia? does require kicking up the exposure time. Some old school tricks in a non edit digital challenge. |

		| | these little canon powershots do it. Feels more bland brown than sepia though |

		| | This is from the DSC F717 sepia setting - what would you have scored it? I've entered something completely different: //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=34534

		| | Jon -- seems like the contrast in your headstone shot is a little flat. It's nicely composed, though.
I'll admit that my entry is toned. I took a bunch of different shots with a bunch of different filters and -- unfortunately or not -- my best shot was one with my least-favorite colored filter. And apparently it's being reflected in my score and comments. Ah well... Better that than a dead-on color shot that's out of focus I guess.

		| | To be honest, this photo doesn't do it for me. I think I agree with Muckpond, it is a little flat. I also think the angle isn't the best. I can't read the wife's middle or last? name.
I do like the shadows though. I would have rated this average most likely a 5.

The Past challenge scores I'm getting are my worst to date LOL...live and learn, huh? You're surely doing way better than me.

		| | I had to use the default sepia setting for my F717 in my submission, as the F717 doens't do black and white. Furthermore, there are no contrast settings. If I hear one more person say that it looks flat, I'm gonna kill...
I knew I shouldn't have entered this challenge.

		| | Honestly, all of them look flat to me (except maybe yours jimmythefish). They almost all look like they need a little boost of contrast and/or color and sharpen. |

		| | For this particular challenge, we couldn't. For any others, sure. The only allowable modifications for the Past challenge were resizing and (as we found out only a day or so ago) rotating from landscape to portrait.
I wish my camera had in-camera black and white as well as sepia, but I still really like the sepia shot I entered.
