J Ralston Photography - My SmugMug Site

After a bit of help from the friendly dgrin people....my new website is starting to take shape! I have been working ALL day on it and my eyes are killing me! Keep in mind, I haven't uploaded too many photos yet as I am trying to get the basic style down first. I also still have to design my pricing and bio pages. Gotta learn a little HTML next to do that!

I'd appreciate your feedback :)

It looks great! I know the smugmug customization isn't easy, been struggling with mine for a few weeks now. Yours looks professional and clean. Nice job!

Agree, nice and clean. I'll be honest though ;-) I'm not sure of the color of the buttons. :-)

It looks like you have a good start.

One thing that I don't like is the slideshow on your home page. My browser spends all its time downloading image after image. IMHO, a single animated .GIF file that displays a few of the images would be better.

One thing you may want to consider adding to your home page is smugmug's 'friends & family' controls. Without them I can't add a link to your site to my friends list. I think it also prevents me from having an automated way of inviting you to join any of the photo communities that I control, such as the 'DPChallenge' community.

I think it looks great! ButterflySis could have a point about the button color though :-) But I didn't even notice it until I read her post and now I notice it a lot - figures, eh. Either way, the site looks very professional!

Just woke up! I literally spent about 12 hours working on that site yesterday because I am a CSS/javascript/html dummy!

Michael- Thanks for the tip about the slideshow. Once I get everything up, I will gear more time towards that. My Guam gallery is just kinda a placeholder for that for now anyways. (The code they have for that pulls the images directly from the galleries) Are others having issues with the slideshow as well?

The friends and family is one homepage? Oh yeah, I think that may have been the first thing I took off..LOL! I reconsider that :)

Button color...what, you don't like my orange? LOL I actually like it, but it is an easy change for if I get sick of it. I had just white buttons but I wanted to page to have a little splash of color. Maybe I'll toggle with the colors some more.

Customizing sure is a pain, but I am glad to have finally gotten the basic foundation done!!!

Actually, I think it's the shade of orange that I'm not liking...but that's just me. ;-) Love the rest and good job on the customization of you site!
