This is somewhat weird but when I was trying to remove polarizer from the lens I must have squeezed it too hard. So the part with the glass came off and the part with the threads stayed on the lens. I removed the other part from the lens but now I̢۪m having trouble putting both parts together.

I tried snapping them in place. But only one end snapped in and the other did not. This made filter somewhat at the angle and of course it does not rotate. I tried a lot of pressure, even stood on it. Nothing can snap it back in place.

Is there a trick? Should I use a big hammer?

It̢۪s 72mm Hoya circular polarizer that I really liked.

Thanks

Nick

I believe most of them have a tiny set screw that will allow you to loosen the frame, place the glass, then tighten up again. Mine has the worlds' tiniest alan-screw - no idea where you get the proper sized alan-wrench for that though.

Hmm.. I didn't see any screws. I'll get my microscope and double check.

Thanks

No screws for sure. Can anybody offer more help?

ok, try this and try not to burn yourself.

Metal expands when heated. place the metal ring into boiling water. Let it heat for a moment and then carefully remove it from the boiling water and then try to put the glass back in it before it cools.

It didn't work. I even put one part in the freezer overnight. The other I put in boiling water for a minute.

Any other ideas? I'm about to take out my epoxy glue.

take it to a camera store, perhaps it has happened to them a few times and they know the answer.

Hey Nick,

it happened to mine too. There is a spring that fits between the glass and the threads. It's a type of "C" spring. Don't know how else to explain it but it sounds like your spring didn't come out with the glass, mine did. It is exactly the same size as the threaded part of your filter. You'll need a very sharp pointy something (love the tech talk) to fish it out. Once out, put the glass back in and the compress the spring over the glass and once in place let it go. It should pop back into place. GOOD LUCK it isn't the easiest thing to do.
