just an imaginary camera, but honestly, do you think it would sell? would you, personally, be interested?
lets say it is the size of those ultra-slim compacts, and has the following basic specs:
Lens: F2.8-F5.4 (insert a reputable lens maker here)
Sensor: 6mp 1.5x crop factor (insert a dSLR sensor brand here)
basically what we have here is an ultra-slim P&S compact camera with limited manual control, Ap, Sp, Manual, P and Auto mode? Has a very high grade and sharp lens, but non-interchangable, no support for filters or converters, but sports a high quality fixed (maybe 3x zoom lens) and a dSLR grade sensor with low noise up to ISO 1600 (some Canon sensor comes to mind)
Here's the catch - price $800.

It is not possible to stuff a 2.8-5.4 3x (say, 28-84mm) zoom lens into an ultra-slim body.
The optics necessary to accommodate such a large sensor would need to be huge (Relatively speaking) |

I think you are taking it too seriously. He said imaginary camera. Besides, computers were the size of entire rooms and now can fit in the palm of your hand so I think anything is possible given time. |

you could get the Leica CM Zoom, it has f3.5-6.5 with 35-70mm lens
or you could get the Leica CM with f2.4
or the Elcan R90 f1.0 with a Leica lens

Well while we are dreaming of the future of cameras...
What do you guys think about a camera with all the capabilities of a professional DSLR. It will have an interchangble (upgradable) sensor and processor. It will stay at the the top of the line as long as you keep upgrading its parts.
The best part about the camera is a special button. When it's pressed, the camera will some how fold into the size of a keychain and weigh only a fraction of the opperating weight. (For all of you technical guys out there, this camera will be made after we find a way to break the law of conservation of mass.)
Any other suggestions to put inside this crazy camera?
Edit: oh yeah...it's costs only 10 bucks!

when the time comes where we found such technology to built this camera, I dont think we still need cameras anymore - probably antiques and used only by die-hards or something! |

You're right. We'll be born with cameras in our eyes that can see in at least 4 dimensions.
Then we'll have photoshop embedded into our brain.
No surgery required either. Just some crazy genetic engineering.
Wonder what this site will be like then... |
