I'm nervous now! What if his mom's overbearing and all bossy? I may have to lock her in the car or send her to the nearest bar for a drink lol. There's a pub where we'll be shooting so I can do that right?

Actually I'm really excited. Got all my paperwork done today, ordering form, price list, the whole 9 yards. Looks really good and I actually felt like I accomplished something lol.

And 40 pictures should be enough right? That's all I have room for in RAW on my CF card.

Congrats...

You can always switch to jpg once you've got the proper exposure/white balance figured out. I do that quite a bit...

40 may be enough if you take your time with each shot and exposure but if you're like me, I constantly shoot and try to catch spontaneous moments so i might do as Count said and switch to jpeg once you have the exposure/white balance down. Never hurts to have too much.

Whoa,

only 40 would be a real stretch for me.

I usually take some test shot to get exposure in a new location, delete them immediately, and then take the real shots.

That way I don't have to worry about exposure in post really. Also, when editing 400+ pictures from some event, RAW is a freaking pain beyond belief.

Well I'm hoping tonights job will earn me enough to buy another memory card. Haven't had the money nor have I needed more than a 512mb since I got the camera because I've always shot close to home.
I think I'll do the test shots, then switch to jpeg. Hoping I can get it all crammed within and hour and a half. I wanted more time but they don't have it and since this is being done at no expense to them- I had to take what I could get.

I've been asking hubby for another memory card for over a month now lol.

Like wavelength said, pain beyond belief.

At weddings and such once I get the exposure down I'll usually switch to jpg. When a tricky shot comes up, or a shot that I absolutly have to have right (like the first kiss, or bride walking with her dad) I'll quickly switch to RAW and snap a few, then switch back to jpg. I love RAW but don't nessisarily like to take all my pictures in it...

I would keep my computer nearby and give them a "comfort break" while you download the first lot of photos, then you can go again.

I'm back already believe it or not. Took an hour.

First let me say it was so much fun. His mom was great and held the reflector for me. I need to watermark the photos before I can post them.

Second I'm not doing this to become some famous huge photographer. I just want to see where it goes and how I do. I only took 20 shots, would have liked to have done more but a bunch of girls from his school were down there and kept coming around so he was pretty embarassed. He's a rather shy guy.

But really 20 was enough. Out of that 20 I got about 3 good headshots and some good portrait shots which is really all I wanted. And funny, he's really popular at school and with all these girls running up, I got two of them who are interested in Senior portraits for next year.

I'm not like a lot of you hardcore photogs lol. I live with what I have and make it work for me. If it doesn't work oh well, no money lost and I had fun and learned a lot more. If it works I gained all that and then some.
