Don't follow my example. My scores have dropped since buying the D200. I am not blaming the camera. In fact I love it. I am doing some of my best work. "Whats the problem then?" you say. Well I'll tell ya. I am a dumba$$. If I could just follow instructions, I would be much further ahead. I submit the following as evidence-
1st challenge after the D200, shallow depth of field, I submit this
and get my lowest score ever. Altough the DOF is only about 1 in. In the context of the picture it is not shallow. I ment to do something more like
Then I submit for Food Recipe. Many felt a that a beverage DNMC.
Then for Studio Portrait I submit instead of taken moments apart. I had a fan blowing my daughters hair. Kinda messes up "Studio" Portrait.
Oh, and then I submit vs. or . All three shots taken within an hour of each other. But clearly some meet Evironmental Portrait better then others.
I can't show you my Still Life photo yet, but believe me, I have done it again. Every comment- Great photo but DNMC!
I promise to remove my head from its currrent location and to do a better job. That is all. Thank you.
Eric

It's quite ok. We all suffer from cranal/rectal inversion every once in a while ;-)

I believe that I have chosen a good time to recover as I am mostly, pretty much, almost, kinda, sure that I understand the Architecture challenge. I will score poorly while meeting the challenge.

Whenever I enter a night photo, I always pick the one I like best at the time, and then later I look at the out-takes and like them better too.
Usually for the other types of photo I only have one that I think has a chance, so I pick that one. |

I recommend you do NOT put your head where some DNMC commenters may suggest that it is.

I think sometimes I get so lost in meeting the challenge, that I forget what other people think the challenge is. Then I get so lost in what I think that others think they think the challenge is about, that I miis it entirely.
Then, on the technical challenges, I forget to include any other aspect of photography besides that technical element. Then I'll go to the opposite end, and try to be creative as possible, while barely within the challenge description, that I miss the mark entirely with the voters.

Goodness, buying a D200 does THAT to you? Now I'm never going to convince my husband that I really, really "need" a D200 :) |

When I had my E10, could do no wrong.
Upgraded and been downhill since in the eyes of the voters, but happier personally.
Life happens. |

If it would help, I'd take the camera off your hands for you. That might clear your head. ;) I mean, just doing it for your best interests and all...

That is very nice of you Jodie. However, I am not a quitter. And I could never be responsible for having a negative impact on your work. I would feel just terrible.

Yeah, as soon as I think that I've got it all figured out, sure as rain I put in some rather average and below shots. Current shots are doing blah.
But its all fun, and I feel your pain. |

Eric, I'm in the same boat with my still life entry. Got a beautiful capture IMHO, and comments back it up, but for sure it DNMC. Hey, it's okay, were all human, we make mistakes!
If you get rid of that D200 I'll give her a good home with a loving photographer! ;)
Keep your chin up, and keep shooting!

After hours of research and studying your comments and examples, I have reached a conclusion - it is due to your D200 camera.
Dont be sad, all is not lost. Here is the cure - give me your D200 and your problems will be over. |

Hmm... a damn good photographer, a sense of humor, and representing central PA (where I was born). That's worth a fave. ;-) |
