When I have my photos printed, the borders are getting cut off. Whats the problem? Does anybody else have this problem. Not just borders, but other processing additions as well.

My sister n law just graduated, and I took her photos. I did really good, but I am trying to add her initials to the bottom, and I don't want them being cut off. <---thats the latest problem.

Somebody else has had this problem I know, or am I really the biggest dummy ever?

Thank you kindly for any suggestions or comments.

Are you choosing "no border?" in the printing options? If you are, then on most printers, the edge of each photo will be cut off somewhat.

edit:

I will usually crop to the size of my "paper". If 4x6 then I will crop 4x6. However, if you choose "no border" then some of the image will be cut.

Are you preparing them at the proper aspect ratio for the print size you're choosing?

No, no! I don't print. I am talking about the standard 4x6 that printing stations print. Like say Wal-Mart, or Walgreens, or any of the other chain printing. I personally use Shutterfly and can see what I print first, but when I give C.D's with photos on them to people and they take them to wal-mart, they come back saying that they are off.

If your border is white, some printers won't recognize your border and will crop to the first color it sees.

There is information near the bottom of this page at Dry Creek Photo which will likely explain your problem.

Wal-mart took me a while to figure outâ€Â¦lol

I resize images that I want at 4x6 to 600x900 before printing and it works out fine. I do this all the time with my proofs @ wal-mart and they have a white border.

The only problem I am having with that Connie is I can only change one or the other when I re-size. After changing the one, the other is automatic.

I feel like such a dummy especially bringing this to you guys. I am sure there is something simple right under my nose that I have missed. I am on my way now to Photoshop > Help > Aspect ratio, and see if there is something there.

The Help section of DPCPrints may help you as well. For example, here is a list of all the aspect ratios and their correlating print sizes.
