Hello there,

I've got a G4 iBook, and well over 2000 pictures. I have been using the native iPhoto to manage them, but it is now SLOW and doesn't work how I want it to.

I've download the trail verisions of iView MediaPro 3 & Extensis Portfolio 8. At the same price, there's not much to choose, but which is best?

Does anyone use these and have an opinion to share with me? Or maybe you can recomend something else.

I want to be able to access all of my photo's with ease as well as show quick slide show, add notes, view the metadata, etc...

Look forward to hearing from you guys.

I have only used iView..,way before iPhoto, also, so not sure on speed comparison. Never used Extensis either. iView originally came out as a Mac application, so it is native and was FOR Mac.
I love the program (I still have 2) and it has made things much easier for me over the many years I have used it (first got it as a beta app).

Extensis Portfolio 8- install the evauation version and it sets it up to load everytime you start your computer. A big nono to me and gets auto removed.

IVeiw seemed ok but I went with IMatch

nothing seems to be better for keywording than my old Breeze Browser.

Adobe Lightroom Beta is available for Macs. I saw a sample at the Epson seminar. It looks like it may replace Raw Converters and image management software such as Iview. You may want to save your money and wait until the final is released.

Thanks for all the advice, here's an update:

I started looking at iView MediaPro 3 (iVMP3) first, as I found the documentation really well written. I have to say, I'm hooked on it, and I've not even looked at Extensis Portfolio 8!

There are several things I love about iVMP3, but the best things are batch processing (e.g. renaming of images), live folder updating, and super (and I mean lightening) fast cataloging. I have (after a clear out) over 3000 images, and it took less than 3 minutes.

Still learning, but I can say it kicks iPhoto (sorry Apple, I love my iBook but iPhoto does bite!) arse.

Rock on!

I was thinking about getting the latest iview-media 3 ...
I had a demo of the old version and it was great.

It looks like they were bought out by ---gulp--- microsoft (the maker of amateur programs like MS Publisher) ...

The iview media web site is blunt about announcing this: iview site so now I'm confused - can iview be trusted on my Mac -- and is it worth it ... and where the heck can i buy it???

Maybe Portfolio is now better???

This looks decent, but is only for Windows.

IView MediaPro 3 and Expression Media are pretty much the same program, except that ExpMed is the one taken over by Microsoft and will continue to be updated, iView MediaPro 3 is at its end, no more upgrades. I have them both on my G5 PowerMac and they run the same and are interchangeable with the catalogs and system.
I got the free upgrade to Expression earlier this year, and am not throwing away the IVMP3 until I am sure Microsoft doesn't trash the program (originally written for Mac users), or get lax on it.

Looks like PhaseOne is selling for $99 IVMP3

Expression Media is $299. You can upgrade IVMP 3 to Expression Media for $99. ($200). I have never paid over $90 for any new (using it since it came out) or upgrade on IVMP...guess you know Microsoft owns it now

My photos are on a 2 terabyte NAS. I used to use iView MediaPro but it wouldn't work with my network drive. Extensis Portfolio works great, though!
