A lady asked me to create an image for her book cover

I'm willing to do it but have absolutely no idea what to charge her

any ideas of how much or what method I should do this?

It will be somewhat of an easy photograph that I will spend a lot of time on

Thanks!

I've done a few book cover designs so maybe I can help.
Design fees range from a low of 1000.00 upwards to about 4500.00 depending on whether the designer retains the rights or sells them outright. In other words, will your picture be used to promote the book on bookmarks, postcards or posters? This adds to the price I'll talk about next.
The artwork (photo or graphics) usually constitutes 30% of the charges. So, if your photograph is the major part of the cover art, a fair price would be at least 300.00.
Now, if you figure in who's publishing the book (self published or publisher) and it's probability of success in sales, then your fee might vary upwards. In any case, less than 300.00 would be giving away your talent and unreasonable.
Of course, if it's your aunt and she's putting out a book for the family, well then whatever works :-)
I've done a few of those as well.
Good luck.
