You aren't in Miami Beach are you?

Well, I'm in at #116, but I'm sure I'm going to flip flop between three shots until tomorrow...

Again, hard to make a choice, so I've gone for the wrong one as usual.

It's raining again today so I probably won't be able to go to the other building I was interested in photographing.

Looks as though my copy based on US law is not valid here in the UK. Need to get the UK version as soon as possible after the Kosher Dill episode...

I was just wondering...

Architecture is NOT just about buildings, it's about all kinds of design, all from designing cities down do designing software, and everything in between.

a chair is architecture, and the sofa is architecture to, and the car you drive, and the plane you fly in...

almost everything is designed by Architects and therefore is Architecture....

will people vote a picture of something else than a building down, or are pictures of other architectural projects accepted in this challenge ?

The answer is almost unequivocally yes. Looking at past challenges however, "buildings" include interior and exterior and other structures such as bridges. I'm guessing if it isn't a building, bridge or very large public sculpture (fountain, monolith, etc) it won't do well.

Yes. Unfortunately so. In as much as black cape architects have designed furniture and chairs such as Frank Gehry, Alvar Aalto, Naguchi, and many others, not everyone is familiar with them. Most of the furniture design are attributed to "designers" per se and not necessarily architects.

Master Planning as in the case of designing cities are also a branch of architecture but they are referred to as Urban Planners.

Car design similar to software design are often referred to as Architecture. In some ways they are because they are part of the "built-environment" however they are not entirely related. If you call a cra designer an architect, I bet you he/she will say their not. It's the same for software engineers.

An image, IMHO, that doesn't show subjects as what has been seen in the past might be construed as being out of the box and thus will suffer from the votes.

Just my two cents.

Two of the ribbon winners in the last architecture challenge were bridge pictures. Bridges do VERY well. Also, outdoor rather than indoor images tend to do better because that is traditional architecture imagery.

Achoo... if you didn't, you should have went with with one (or more) of those wonderful Portand bridges. They would do very well, especially as night images. ;) LOL!

shhhhhhdon't tell him Steve. I think Achoo and Larus are itching to kick my butt on this challenge ;)

well then... kick away :P

I tend to try not to duplicate my entries. I've already done the St. Johns Bridge in Road. The weather has also been very overcast which doesn't help night shots too much.

I have a pretty good shot though. I like it at least.

It's nice entering as the underdog. If Rikki wins, well, he was supposed to. If he doesn't, bragging rights for me. ;)

Entry No. 140

Doc/Larus, here I come and there I go (down the drain).

BTW, I don't think there are underdogs here ;)

I fear we are going to grow tired of lots of buildings BUT the really artistic WOW shots are going to be like the diamonds in the rough. I may pull mine - it doesn't fit into the wow factor. I can't get really excited about this for some reason. Hmmm what to do what to do.

Oh, I know... hum a Beatle's tune and wait for Tuesday. ;~D

I'm in too. Not a master piece, because where I live we don't have the kind of architecture that will do well here. Didn't have time to hop over to my neighbour country (I live on (at?) the border) to shoot some 12 to 16th century architecture.
Oh well, never mind, will end up somewhere in 4 I think.

Yah, those 12th century buildings might be hard to beat ;(

I am an Enterprise Architect - in IT, so I guess this does not count :-)

Re wow factor: I have one shot I did not submit as I feared it breached the editing rules (needed to use perspective crop to make it work). Another had real wow (amongst my family) but it looked as though it had been done before when I looked through the older challenges. So I went with option three...

On the other hand, I was amazed I had three options - something of a first for me :-)

I can't wait for midnight on this one. I'm tired of clicking between windows. Black & white? Color? Black & white? Color? Black & white? Color? argh!

And it's the same shot. Half the people I've shown it to like the b&w, half the color. Not helpful.
edit: spelling

In Advanced Editing, using the Lens Correction filter is permitted, right? I sure hope so!

OK, I've labeled my possible alternatives 1 - 5. Pick a number between 1 and 5, so I know which one to submit.

I have no idea how to do lens correction or any of that, but I kinda like my architecture skewed anyway.

By the way, regardless of which entry I pick, I do not expect to do anything better than my average score, but that is irrelevant to me. What matters is I've had a great time wandering around and appreciating buildings I'd never noticed before. After the challenge, I'll throw a bunch of shots into my portfolio so those of you who haven't been here will get a chance to see a bit more of the place. I'd hope that others will do the same so we can all virtually visit other cities. Very cool challenge topic!
