I have noticed that with two diffent Rebels that the color purple does not come out true to color. Natural outdoor light seems to make it worse, rather than purple it seems to come out more of a blue. Has anyone else noticed this? And what causes this?

All cameras suffer from this - purple in our own perception relies on an amount of reflection of ultra-violet light to have it's impact. Your camera's sensor (which is as good as any sensor in any camera, for my money), doesn't 'see' UV the same way you do. That's also why outdoors is more of a problem - there's so much more UV kicking about.

I had a HELL of a job with a blue background the other day, shooting RAW helps. Bluebells are also hard, and I've noticed intense Reds can also be a bit of trouble.... actually maybe its thats I just dont know what I'm doing!

I find that I have ALOT more trouble with reds than I do purples.
reds(such as roses) seem to "bleed" while purple(Iris's) arent as vibrant as I saw them. But Im in the same boat as cheekymunky

Yep, I've noticed it, too. Thanks for the explanation, Ed.

I had noticed a color issue one time only. 1000+ pictures teken but no throuble with red/pink/violet. I had don´t shoot so many flowers outdoors at now, but will try to check it.

The problem I´d had was with a sunset. My eyes could see a layer of orange/blue transition that was amazing. I shot it. Then review it... What? Where are that spetacular color transition? Then I try second time, this time I put my eyes in the viewfinder and pay some attention to that image. My surprise, the colors where aren´t there. Take out my eyes from VF, there is that color, put it into VF, no color.

My conclusion, the EFS 18-55 is a piece of shit. The viewfinder, due to it´s small size don´t give space to see wat was happen unitl I´d reviwed my picture.

You can't "see" the transition in the viewfinder 'cuz it occupies too small a space to separate nicely. For the rest of it, the eyes are MUCH more subtle than the camera's sensor is; that's why God gave us Photoshop, to bring back those colors we saw and want to reproduce. There's NO way the sensor can exactly match the eye/brain combo, you need to tweak to get what you saw.

Thanks Rob. But my issue was really weird! The transition I saw, was 70% of frame! My first shot was framed before the transition comes to the best, then I tamped the VF and wait... The second shot I saw clearly that transition wasn´t there simply because it´s 70% of my frame. I really saw a single color, blue. Not that orange part that becomes red than blue.

I agree that PS is a great tool, but in some ways I´d like so much to get it at shoting time.

The problem with your exaggerated reds and purples lies in your JPEG settings. This is why you notice it looks fine when you shoot in RAW. I don't know about with the Rebel, but with my 20D and my 5D I can make all sorts of changes to color settings. Hope this helps.
