OK here's the challenge and it's a voting challenge.
This challenge will only be open for voting to people that entered photos into the challenge.
Now, the catch:
When you vote on an image is refelcts on YOUR socre for your photo.
If at least 25% of the voters did not give the same score as you gave then your score would be reduced by one point. Like so: 5.0000 x 100 votes = 500 points. Thus you would go to 4.99 if you missed a vote.
Ofcourse the actual average for your photo still counts, but missing a vote decreases it.

If the vote you give someone else's photo doesn't match what at least 25% of the other voters thought about it, your photo is penalized.

What's the point? All this does is penalize people who don't vote the same as everyone else on all the entries. Why do that?

25% of the scores, divided by the votes, carry the 1, oh the heck with it.
Can I just be a troll? |

Well, it might give some insight into how others vote. A excersize in mass appeal. Might even help some realize what it takes to ribbon here.

How?

Can't every challenge be considered an exercise in mass appeal... at least if that's what you want it to be?

You know, it kinda scares me: more and more often lately, I find myself agreeing with Harvey... (wink)

exactly.
just do what you love to do, don't adjust your creativity with photography just to be into mass appeal. I certainly wouldn't enter this challenge, just because I want to go my own way, not the way the rest of the world (or: DPC) is pointing me to :)

YES, I agree. I definitely don't shoot for norm here myself.
But, it would be cool (I think) to force the voter to stop and think about votes before just clicking a button.
And, this would severely penalize so-called "trolls".
Just thought it was a novel idea. But, then again, I'm predictable.

Okay, but your numbers should probably be adjusted. Some pictures, i.e. all the top and bottom scorers, don't have a 25% consensus for any one score.

Probably right. I was convinced earlier today that 25/5 = 14 :-) Not a mathmatician by any means and I'm sure my idea would to be tweaked a bit to work.

do you think this idea would work, script-writing-like?

I'm not the best PHP coder in the world, but it shouldn't be a hard script to implement. But, then again, I'm not sure how the backend of DPC runs.

The box has no lid and unfortunately the contents spill at times.

It could definitely work. The subtracting can occur at the end when all voting is done. Whether they want to do scripting just for a challenge is another matter! |
