In case you haven't used this feature in Photoshop CS and CS2, I highly recommend that you use it ;) It saved my image twice already. The first time I used it was during the Candid III challenge.
There were a couple of things that didn't help me too much when I shot this image. Aside from being dark skinned, the sun was behind my subject and he was also wearing a hat thus casting his entire face in shadow. However, using the Highlight and Shadow filter (Image>Adjustments>Highlight and Shadow), I was able to unlock the emotions written all over his face.
Then this feature came in handy again in the most recent challenge - Holy Places. I am posting the before and after image using the filter. The original is uncropped. Just resized. Of course it wasn't entirely this feature that helped. I also adjusted Levels and Curves as well as adjusted Hue and Saturation by color.
If you find yourself taking photos and having them come out darker than what you expected, try this feature out. It's one of the better improvements over version 7.
Cheers,
Rikki |

I use it a LOT... but subtly. It's so much quicker than the old way... LOVE it!

I got to use this filter by accident after trying out a couple of plug-ins. Sure helped on my St Pauls Dome shot a lot!
Funny thing is I thought that this had been in PS for ever... |

Brilliant results using it subtly. Of course if you go overboard, you can get something like this:
I thought the halo effect fitted what I wanted in this image and deliberately exaggerated it by downsizing first, but I wouldn't recommend this for general use. BTW, I did have to validate this image.
