For all those that asked how I took (and for those that requested a DQ) Shy

This was the set-up.

A Cokin A346 Double exposure filter was used on my Fuji S602z (the 602 allowing multiple exposures). This filter covers half the lens and therefore only half the frame is exposed.

As I couldn't find any large paper bags in the area (I must have a big head) I ended up buying brown wrapping paper and making one!

The camera was set up on a tripod, set to aperture priority and the AV output from the camera connected to the TV. I could see the TV via the mirror and when I was in place I then checked the shutter speed the camera was giving. The camera was switched to manual exposure and the settings entered, manual was used to ensure that the exposure was the same for both halves of the frame.

I then stood in front of the mirror and noted the approx. position of my feet. Using a remote shutter release cable I made the first exposure of the reflection, the filter was then moved to the unexposed half. Standing in approximately the same place I then shot the half containing myself looking into the mirror.

Unfortunately I'd left setting all this up until Sunday morning (the window is south-west facing so it would have been more difficult later in the day) and the picture wasn't the best, so I'll claim it was more of a concept and inspiration piece!

These are some other ideas if anyone is interested:

Thanks for the explanation Rob, I was wondering how you managed that effect. Looks like you had a lot of fun doing it.

I gave you a 9 for that pic, extra points for originality. I'd love to know who gave you the two 1's!

Rob, great explanation. probably would have done better if people didnt' think somehting was fisy (cheating). Wonderful creativity. Keep you the good work, ol' buddy.

Nice work, and thanks for the explanation. It never occured to me that that type of filter would be available.

The first outtake isn't obvious enough - at a quick glance you would just assume the reflected subject was out of frame.
I like the third one though, but not quite as much as your entry.
As for the second one ... nice scar!

Very cool idea, and shot. I have the same Cokin filter from my film days...too bad I cant take double exposures with my D60 :(
