Hi newbie here, I have had the vivicam 3765 for about 6 months, and I have noticed, that some picture I take, have nasty stripes across them, almost as if the image has not been recorded properly. I am using a 1Gb memory card, I have read that the camera supports a max of 256Mb, would using a larger capacity card affect image quality?

PS: My old Canon EOS 5000 SLR outperforms this camera in almost every dept.

Thanks

Clint

Hiya Clint, I've noticed that as well. Especially in low-light conditions. :(

I'm using a 256MB card and suffer from the same fate, so it's most likely not because of the card.

I'll stop short of calling it a cheap camera. ;)

P.S. Sorry it took so long to reply!

It is basically impossible for the CF card to do this to your image... Stripes or banding is an issue with your sensor or your camera's processor...

Time to take it in...

If there were an issue with the CF card, you would lose files altogether...

If there were an issue with the camera not viewing the card correctly, it would see the wrong size for the card (your first clue), and might fail writing altogether (unlikely, even in this case, as the first part of the card will still be accessible without issue USUALLY)... Or it just won't see the card at all...

I've tested a LOT of different toys, MP3 players, cameras and PDA's at computer shows as well as in shops and in my own small personal collection. I usually have cards big enough to go over the limit of what is the claimed max by a fair bit... ie putting a 2GB card in an MP3 player with a claimed max size of 256MB...

These are firmware issues and could be fixed with an update (if they get off their hindquarters to do anything, it takes all of about 20 minutes to get the tech to do... most of that is taken up by getting a fresh cup of coffee too...).

Fret not about your CF card...

Instead, fret about your camera...
