Ok, I don't seriously expect this to be considered but I'll throw it out there anyway.

Challenge: Thick Skin
Challenge Description: Shoot something that conveys "thick skin".
Extra Rules: Only participants who welcome constructive comments even if a bit harsh are allowed to enter. Also, voters of this challenge MUST comment on at least 20% of the photos for their votes to count.

Since we've had challenges that test out new image dimensions and other things why not comments? Sure there will be lots of one word comments left but do you really want to be that person that leaves nothing but one word comments for everyone to see? Anyway, just thought this could be fun as a challenge even without the comments requirement. Thoughts?

P.S. Feel free to say this suggestion sucks! :P

They monitored comment quality for the recent FS, so why not on this.

I like the idea for the most part. My skin is fairly thick and I could comment 20%, but I don't think I have the imagination to ever produce a photo that fits that challenge. It would be fun for a FS or a technical type challenge.

I like it. This would be a good test to see if restrictions like that do any good.

I predict lots of corn, callous and bunion shots.

I can just see the DNMTC comments now: "Coconuts don't have SKINS, you moron, they have SHELLS!" followed by "That's how much YOU know, idiot! Coconuts are NOT nuts and they DO Have skins, not shells, so go SOAK YOUR HEAD!"

I think we could use a heated/spirited coconut thread. :P

you left out a rant about googling coconuts and looking on the 43rd page that came up and see how the ancient mayans would cover themselves in empty coconuts and call it thier "super thick second skin"

Actually they do not have skins or shells

Botanically, a coconut is a simple dry fruit known as a fibrous drupe (not a true nut). The husk (mesocarp) is composed of fibres called coir and there is an inner "stone" (the endocarp). This hard endocarp (the coconut as sold in the shops of non-tropical countries) has three germination pores that are clearly visible on the outside surface once the husk is removed. It is through one of these that the radicle emerges when the embryo germinates. Adhering inside wall of endocarp is the testa with a thick albuminous endosperm, the coconut meat, the white and fleshy edible part of the seed. Wikipedia

skin has a more figurative meaning, as in the "skin" of a pudding. :P So go back and add 5 to my score!

Seems to me that having a thick skin is a maturity issue.

Off to play with my yo-yo.

The sooner this can get in the mix the better. Perhaps make it the next Thursday/720 pixel challenge.

hey, I stayed up until 4am this morning making sure I left a comment on everyone's picture in lens cap. I tried my best to say what I thought was good about the photo as well as what I thought could improve. It was harder work than I thought it would be, the staying up late part I mean (lol), I had my last three finals today, oops, but I managed to stay awake for all of them. Anyway, I feel like I've done my part so far, I have also voted on every entry in the challenges I've entered and I plan to continue that, commenting on EVERY photo each time, we'll see, as many as I can at least... ok I'm done bragging

OMG the challenge topic isn't even real and now we already have got a little debate over whether coconut is skin or not, LMAO! you people! :p

I appreciated it...your comment that is.

If that was addressed to me, thank you, I hope that the entries toward the end of my voting aren't too bad as I started to get really tired... hahaa... I hope that the comments are taken the way I meant them, and that they are appreciated cuz I know how the comment situation here is, from reading all the forum rants, and I understand completely, sucks to have a score keep dropping and people not tell you why, that doesn't help, I also find it helpful to know what people liked so I can expand on that

And any person who isn't thick-skinned enough and moans about this thread is automatically disqualified from entering this challenge ... :)
