Last couple of days have been brutal on this one for some reason. Geesh!

OK, here's an odd one. Just got 2 votes and 1 comment. Comment was pretty positive so I would assume a decent score. The two votes averaged 3.5. So, that tells me I got a 3 & 4 vote. Could have been a 1 & 7 or 2 & 6, but still seems odd. The positive comment came from a person whose average score given is 3.4.. Does everyone know that 10 is better than a 1?

SrDanz, I don't know how you figured out which one of the photos was mines, but that is impressive. Thanks for the comment, I do appreciate it. The only thing i'd say is that some of the suggestions you mentioned would violate the rules of basic editing (silly me trying to follow rules), but the rest were helpful. That is exactly how comments should be left.

Does a Open challenge generally score lower than a member challenge? I'm assuming that voters will score a good image lower if they have a pix in the challenge. Personally I think after the beating I'm taking that I may go rethink how I vote.

hmm, it doesn't matter :/

My score has been dropping a LOT the past two days. It stayed just over 5.7 for a long time now it is barely hanging on to 5.6.

More people are voting on this challenge which is a good thing. Mine has 319 votes - in recent open challenges my pictures have been getting around 100 votes less.

What do you mean, rethink? Are you going to change your voting pattern to score the better images higher? I don't think that it is a wise thing to do. There is no proof that the alleged downvoting really happens, and even if it does, its effect on the end scoring is negligible.

Now, your average score given is way off the charts, but as long as there is a curve in your scoring, and as long as you vote better pictures (in your opinion of course) higher than the worse, your voting pattern is fine.

Cheers!

This is, it appears from this forum, a somewhat lower than usual scoring challenge. That said, I am riding a decent (for me) score of 5.5XX. Granted that isn't where most "good" photogs think of as high, but based on the comments I'm getting, my shot is really pretty good.
On the other hand, some to-remain-nameless troll just gave me a ONE with a very benign one-word comment. I struggle giving a two or a three and feel compelled to say something as to why.
This person chose a different way. I wonder if this is a general attitude in the challenge overall?

Sigh - No harm. My image was expected to ring in a nice 3.5, so this is all gravy.

It's a shame. Trolls are keeeling me. Just received a 3 and earlier a 2. And things looked so promising just 24 hours ago :(

I turned off the scores. I got tired of watching my score sink faster than the Titanic.

Started out at 7 with around 5 votes, was setting high 5's around the 100 vote mark, has dropped to almost a even 5 right now, with 18 positive comments. The funny thing is I agree with the score, this was a what the heck fun type of challenge.....but the voting habits seems kinda strange for a little while now....hmmmmmm

One interesting thing about my submissions, with the exception of maybe one challenge, during the course of 7 days of staring at it, I start seeing things on them that I would deduct whole points for. In the end, I always end up where I deserve to be.

So, what are your expectations, DPCers? I predict 45th place out of 181 for me this time.

WooHoo! Just went back to 6.3.. I'm hoping for a top 20, but will be happy no matter what. It's been a while since I entered a challenge, in fact, since July of last year! This is currently my second highest scoring challenge, and has been enough of a kick to get me going again! Thanks DPC!

I didn't need this last 5...

My lens cap didn't score, but my camera was ready for action :-)

Nice to see you finish one above me Leroy. I considered pulling the shot, but then though, "I'll wear it as a badge of honor as my own personal cheese shot!"

That second to last comment really put the icing on the cake too...

Seriously, could someone explain why I got 104th place?

Your shot is good. I like the lighting, except for the blown highlights near the top of the lenscap. But, a quick look through the entries shows that technicals alone didn't quite cut it.

Top rated images used the lens cap in some unique way, ofcourse so did some lower rated images.

My boy entered his first ever challenge... not very many people "got it", but to be honest, I was surprised anyone did! (hint: think astronomy and Orion's Belt)

Your commentors average 7.1333, which is a decent score. I would not bother analyzing too much. Swallow this one and move to the next one. I thought I deserved higher placement, and so did you. Nothing will change (except perhaps a DQ or 2 that may move you up a place or 2), so forget about this one and move on.

And no, I can't explain why 105th. I can explain the 5.x score with a technically perfect, but otherwise not-so-interesting setup. There are some higher-placed shots that I scored lower than yours...

Again, fuhgettaboutit :-)

You know, the best thing about my shot (and Fotomann's) is the absolute rejection.

Here is a breakdown of the 1 and 2 scores of the photos around us:

114th 1/7 (that's one 1 and seven 2s)
115th 2/5
116th 2/4
117th (Leroy's) 12/13
118th (mine)...wait for it...21/8
119th 3/7
120th 4/6

You have to make it down the 171st and the black box to get close to that many 1s. Is that Nikon people voting me down? or is it DNMC for having the lenscap too small?

Doc - I personally scored you a 5. The idea was creative and funny, but there were things that I felt were well within your control that should have been done better, such as the wrinkled background and lighting.
