| I will be doing some overseas travel. Space will be limited so I do not think that I can bring a full size tripod. Does anyone have any sugestions. I was thinking of a tabletop tripod becaue they are very compact or possiby a monopod. I saw a manfrotto monopod that you can attach some small legs to the bottom for more stability. Anyone have any suggestions, models, etc... |

And if you get the nylon ones with zippers you can travel with them empty and fill with sand, beans, dirt, whatever when you get there. |

| I would never trust a tabletop tripod with any dslr. All of the ones I've seen seem pretty cheap. Maybe if you find a nice one it would be a good idea to bring a along. |

Buy a tripod at your destination, mid-range but adequate, and leave it with the nearest deserving DPCer upon departure :-)

i've been using the small base at the bottom of this image
(it is supposed to be a backlight stand) & a inexpensive head (#234 manfrotto) -- also serves as a good club if someone likes you equip. too much
it is as compact as a beanbag
occasionally pack a super clamp (also shown in the image) to clamp onto car windows or such
i don't advise hauling the arm for camera support -- too wobbly ...
Note: you need a post or two to hold the tripod head above the legs

I have the Sunpak digipro CS, which is small, light, extends relatively high and works as a table top tripod. It's not good if you have a lot of big long lenses (e.g., no Bigmas), but it's the one tripod I don't mind carrying at all (hardly notice it), and it's quite functional. Not too expensive too.
Only disadvantage is that it doesn't have a quick release, but it looks like you buy a new head for it. It's so light though you can just leave it on the camera and hanging from your neck when closed up and moving from location to location.
I've been very happy with mine so far.
